@pamela-fraley If you’re a fan of Art Deco, definitely check out the Superman cartoons from the Fleischer/Famous studios inthe 1940s. Jaw dropping, cinematic, atmospheric artwork.

Another cartoon I can recommend is The Big Bad Fox. It’s three stories in one film. Made for kids but adults will enjoy it, too. And really hilarious. Plus, the artwork is like a children’s book.

@pamela-fraley Count me in with an annual A Charlie Brown Christmas tradition. The season doesn’t start until I watched it and/or listened to the soundtrack.

            Hi Asyas,
Yes, I still watch animated films, and I'm 48. In fact, I think it was probably my love of animated films that got me into illustration.

There is a lot of animation that is not specifically for young children, such as When The Wind Blows, or the original Watership Down film. They're traumatic in a similar way to Bambi or Pinnochio, but done in a British way.

I watched the American film Coco the other day, and it made me cry! But there's so much great animation being produced in different countries. Check out the classic Russian short film Hedgehog in the Fog (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS5mxXtStOY) and, of course, the recent Spanish film Klaus.

            What's your favourites?

@danielerossi I will definitely do that! I love the Art Deco era, and Art nouveau. I also love a little bit later when Eyvind Earle was painting backgrounds for Disney. So beautiful.

                Eyvind Earle

Sleeping Beauty was my favorite as a little girl. ❤
(I was 10-12 when The Little Mermaid & Beauty & the Beast came out.) Now that there are so many more, I can't really choose a favorite!

Yes, I still enjoy animated shows & movies, and I like children's books & YA fiction. (I'm 42, with no kids — but I have several nieces & nephews!)

Animated shows have been especially helpful to me when my health hasn't been so good. (I have chronic illness, and I've had a few surgeries.) I've found that more light-hearted shows help me feel better. 🙂

Binge-watching "Hilda", "Miraculous", & "Steven Universe" kept me distracted during some tough recovery from my last surgery. (During the worst periods, less complicated storylines are good!) "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is another good one.

But I enjoy these kinds of stories anytime!

It's also nice to not have "scandalous" material, since I like keep it PG.

I enjoy more grown-up fantasy stories as well, like "Locke & Key", & "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", or dramas like "This is Us", & "Ordinary Joe".

@asyas_illos as you may notice, you are not alone. I’m 34 with no kids, but my Netflix is full of animations, and I also buy some kids books especially when I know the artist or I simply like the style 😋

I still watch some cartoons but I'm not as apt to search for them as I used to be. I love the classic Warner Brothers stuff, the old Tarzan and Flash Gordon animations from the 70's, Thundarr the Barbarian....all fun stuff. Then you have Animaniacs, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, Ed, Ed and Eddy were great, Samurai Jack, loved the John Kricfalusi's Mighty Mouse which was really funny. I still like to catch South Park sometimes and I watched the Invincible series on Prime....I've not seen many recent cartoons....any good suggestions?

@asyas_illos I LOVE watching animation! Of course, I have four kids (2, 6, 9, 11) but the older ones are more into, as they call it, real life people movies. I always try to talk them into animation. 🙂 My 2 year old is OBSESSED with anything Frozen so we watch those a lot. Every time I watch Frozen and Frozen 2 I learn something new.
