Finished my new Winston strip early. Pleased with the new watercolor palette and techniques.

@alexisartxox Ohhh I like this! The lightening does help, while it still feels dark and moody, but I'm seeing more details than the first time. I never realized the green thing was a cat until now! The new font also looks great!!

@Laura-Hunt Thanks for showing us the sketch first!

I agree that it is not clear what STORY you are trying to tell with this piece.
It seems like the girl with the dolphin is the main character, but why is she hugging the dolphin and why is it important that she is doing it in the middle of the school? 🙂

I don't dare to give feedback regarding composition as long as you don't tell us what the story of the illustration is about.

@Asyas_illos and @Carlianne And if you create a backlit light source, with light streaming through the water you could create some fish in illumination and some in shadow 🙂

@skeletortoise maybe have the baker and cake fill more of the camera/scene frame and the silhouettes in the background of the dragon shooting flames at the crowds running away. This is a fun concept!

@LisaF and everyone who worked on the video: Thank you so much, this is going to sound trite but truly I thought I knew everything about perspective but learned that I was mistaken. This video got my butt in my chair to fix old pieces because it offered sensible, artistic, storytelling reasons for perspective decisions. Thanks again. ❤

Awkward AI art out in the wild

@patricialamas I've recently heard a talk from a programmer/designer who theorizes that AI art might actually get worse from here instead of better - because bad AI art is being harvested and put back into the algorithm, giving it bad data!

AI companies could develop a system to be able to recognize AI art in order to stop it from joining the dataset, but if they create this technology it would be a huge self-own, because other people could then use it to point out which images in the wild have been made by AI.

On top of that, the free Glaze tool by the university of Chicago was JUST completed and released, and allows us to "cloak" our images with invisible, tiny pixel-level variations that makes the algorithm read our style all wrong. If they feed your glazed images into an AI to replicate your style, they'll be getting Van Gogh like swirls instead 🙂

      Glaze: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/

AI bros are already reporting (complaining really) that it works as intended and that "the least we could do" is watermark our images to indicate they have been glazed because now, these images are poisoning the data and making it misidentify images. Boo hoo!

This reminds me of someone stealing their roommate's food then complaining that it's been laced with laxatives.

Anyway, the future of artists is looking bright!

@Kristen-Lango I would pick 2 because I think it shows the inside vs outside well using dark for inside and bright for outside.

I do think the green character could be a little brighter to make them stand out from the background. You could even use the outside light cast on the character to bring them out.

I also think the colors go best together in 2.

@Shelley-James-0 very nice work. Good job on getting to this point.

I have a few suggestions - I think the biggest thing that is missing here is a true focal point. You need to have something that you want to direct viewers to. It can be anything really, but you need to pick something. Then the image will start suggesting what it wants. For example, if ONE of those little huts starts to get attention, we can start to downplay other areas of the image.

I did a very fast paint over (sorry its so sloppy), but just to sort of show what I mean. Your is the top image and mine is the bottom. I picked that middle right little structure, then just leaned the focal point there by darkening other areas and then trying to add some detail in the area where I want you to look. Thinking this way makes building an image much much easier. : )

Hope this helps some. : )

      @Mike-Babich I have this one https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UK600-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor
But I got it a couple years ago so I don't think you can buy it new anymore at a reasonable price.

If I were to get an LG today I'd probably get this one
      https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-32up83a-w-4k-uhd-led-monitor

But I think the ASUS monitors you've chosen have alittle bit better specs than that one
