Liz Orton - Featured Artist for January 2022
-
Our featured student for the month of January is Liz Orton. It's up on our blog and below is an introduction to the Q&A that SVS producer, David Braud, conducted with Liz:Can't decide what I love most about Liz's work; her beautifully crafted animal characters, all the incredible little details she puts into her work, or the humor infused in most of her illustrations. I think you'll find inspiration in her artistic process and practice.

Congratulations @lizardillo! Love your work and enjoyed reading your interview.
I can only imagine what it’s like to see a castle outside my window!
Wishing you the best in your mentorship and goals for 2022.

Excellent interview! I really enjoyed reading about Liz
-
Really great interview @lizardillo ! Congratulations!
-
This is great, @lizardillo! Your sense of humor shines though. I was also pleased to discover a fellow birder! Loved your sushi ill and definitely going to check out those books! A really fun read!
-
@jeremy-ross thank you so much for taking the time to read it. It’s only the top and flag you can see over the roofs of the houses, but, it’s still a view of a castle
-
@k-flagg thank you ️
-
Very Cool work. This is what I need to start working on. Imagination stuff
-
@annaaronson thank you ️
-
@lauraa thank you. Birding is like feathery Pokémon isn’t it? You gotta spot ‘em all!
-
@lizardillo Haha, funny! But I know nothing about Pokemon! I was just fascinated with all the warbler colors and finding a bit of nature in NYC. Of course, if I saw a Saxon/Norman castle out the window I'd be pretty excited about that, too.
-
@doodlemick thank you. Go for it and have fun!
-
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yay! I’m so glad you were featured!
-
Great interview, great work. Jealous that you look out at a castle but I know it gets darn cold there too! Look forward to seeing more of your work and your thought processes.

@randarrington thank you
-
@kathrynadebayo thank you
-
@larue thank you. Yes it’s very cold here after an unseasonably warm new year. I’m starting back to doing work today wearing a lot of layers of clothes 🥶

Birding is the best! @lizardillo and @LauraA, if you all have birding websites or portfolios of your birds I'd love to check them out. I'm a birder that carries binoculars as well as camera so I've got a few favorites here: instagram.com/finches2falcons

@David Oh cool! Love the photos, especially that Black-throated Green looking straight at the viewer. And a kinglet! Cutest birds ever!
No website here. Just a lot of fond memories of wandering around Central Park with my daughter. You'd never know it was one of the best birding spots in the country. I miss American birds sometimes, even though the European Robin is adorable!
I have never drawn many birds, but my CBPro dummy is going to feature some. Thanks for sharing!
