Hi Will. Thank you so much for doing this. I am learning lots from everyone's critiques! You can this image if you would like. My name is Jeanne Bowman and my website is jeannebowman.weebly.com and my instagram isinstagram.com/jeanneillustrates/ This is for a picture book I have finished up to the dummy stage about a witch who chases a little girl. Baba Yaga and Vasilssa if you want to know who is who. I am worried mostly about being too "old fashioned" to get much picture book work at the moment.

This is for a book dummy project of mine. It's a double-page spread for a small book (fits into a Christmas stocking) that's more tall than it is wide.
I know for sure that the perspective is off but I don't know how to fix it. I can't even tell if it's just one or both the circular conveyor belt and/or Hollie (the pinkish red head who's standing).

Hi Will, found your Youtube channel several weeks ago and been watching yourvideos almost every day. I recently tried the #Draw50Things challenge and went with your suggestion of starting off small with 25 items. I really enjoyed the challenge, it's definitely something I have always avoided, I have rarely ever created a whole scene, I mainly concentrate on characters. The story I was trying to tell here is that Ed is scared/uneasy in the shed. I was pretty happy with the outcome but would love some critique since I'm just starting out trying to try and illustrate more professionally and unsure what could be improved. Thanks

I have been following your YouTube videos for some time (Loving the self-publish video). I am new to the forum and slowly trying to work my way into full time illustration. Always dreamed about illustrating (actually creating an entire) children's book. I am still trying to find my style that is unique and dynamic, yet efficient. This is a scene from a book commission I just finished. Two cars are parked in a large garage/shed like barn which is gloomy. The moon shines through a skylight. The right hand car is telling the left hand car about his adventures that day.

Pickles the Pig>concept is of a hard hearted Pig who is broken over a series of seemingly misfortunate events. The dilemma is resolved in a very peculiar way resulting in sunshine not only filling the dark recesses of his messy storeroom but filling every corner of his heart. (Might have posted this a while back but I did some recent touch up)

I posted this image in my instagram before, but I hope it can be useful. Was something that I started developing while practicing some inking from @Jake-Parker Inking class. I thought of also including the images of the process. It took me about 11 hours to complete this spread through 3 days (including making the first sketch - but not the previous design of the robot).
I do not have a website, but an Instagram account (diego_biosteam). Feel free to mention it.
The Concept: Bianca followed her father to his workplace and got lost there. While observing other workers, she decides to help them in their duties. But a little girl is not allowed there, so her newfound friends are trying to help her not to get into trouble. In the whole process she learns more about her father's daily life at work!
Inspiration: whimsical themes such as Studio Ghibli stories and "Little Prince". Design and functionality of machines/robots and environment is based on biology (the inner structures of cells).

I found you on YouTube and I've been watching loads of your videos - very insightful indeed. I wouldn't actually call myself an illustrator per se, as I'm really a graphic designer. However, I have done some illustrations for a few clients as part of my design work and I'd be interested in moving further into illustration.
In fact I've just been asked to illustrate a short children's storybook by a local lady, which I've decided to take your advice on - you've suggested that it's quite rare for an author-illustrator partnership to be picked up by a publisher, but also that it's worth taking advantage of any opportunity to get more experience and add to your portfolio. Also, i'm not getting paid much, so I'm going to do mainly spots and vignettes, but in any case, I'm going to make sure that I work like I'm getting paid £5000, even though I'm only getting £500...
Anyway, I'm glad I signed up to the SVS Learn forum, because discovering an opportunity to have you critique one of my illustrations would be absolutely amazing, as I'd love to know what your thoughts and suggestions might be.
This piece was based on a short story, 'Who is Leonard Bopper?', by the singer from a local band. The final image was used as the front cover of the band's album of the same name, and then for a website, which told the story by zooming in on various sections of the one image, using basic CSS animation techniques to bring the images to life.
The story is about a private investigator in a filthy city full of organised crime, trying to save a damsel in distress, which turns into a revenge thing. This image portrays a moment when he confronts a suspect in a dark alley.

thank you so much for everything you do, I usually watch your videos while I'm drawing and they give me tons of motivation!
I recently started to get into watercolor, didn't do that for years now. And am really afraid of f-ing up every piece I start. But I think it's going quite well even though I know I have a lot to learn, an can usually name uncountable things that I want to do better the next time
Here is the piece I would love a critique on:
It's the essence of the fairytale 'The star money', my favorite fairy tale when I was a child.
My main goal in this piece was actually to not focus on just the character but work with a light source that casts hard shadows (in this case the glowing star money), as well as a full background. I usually just draw characters not connected to a scenery (so there usually is no specified light source) so this was good practice. I started by sketching on a piece of paper, then scanned it in and tried out different color combinations and shadowing. Then went back to my drawing table and first sketched then colored it.
Since it's the first time I drew something that complex with watercolors I would appreciate it so much if you could give me some feedback. I bet you see stuff I didn't know yet that it was wrong because I had so much to focus on
