AUGUST CONTEST: Dragonfly

This illustration depicts Clara Driscoll, the designer behind the Tiffany Lamp, sketching in Central Park. LC Tiffany was a decorative artist in the 1900's Art Nouveau style. Mucha, another artist of that era, inspired my color choices. The sketches in the foreground are based on drawings she made to create the famous Dragonfly Tiffany Lamp.

@fpichel They do tend to lean more toward children's illustration and that is what the majority or students are pursuing but any entries are welcome. Lee, Will, and Jake have said that these concepts are just to help you build portfolio pieces so you should create images that will help strengthen your body of work. It is hard to win the contest if it's outside the children's illustration realm though since the students get to vote so it leans more children's style most of the time.

Hi everyone! It's my first time participating in the SVS contests. I read that dragonfly's flight is studied in aerodynamics and robotics, so here's my take on it.
-
Here is my entry for this month, it is meant as a title page for a cute book idea ("The little dragonfly witch") that came to me through this months prompt.
I learned something while making this .... I`ll be writing the text on a separate sheet and digitally lay it over the drawing. That way I can more easily change the font, if it isn´t legible. Had to rework so much digitally to make the word "witch" more legible.
Hope your are all doing fine! Love, Aisleen

@PhophophoWorld Congratulations on your first submittal! This is very nice! I love your story. I considered this aspect of the dragonfly myself. You nailed it! It's also drawn and rendered very well.

Hello Everyone,
I am new to SVSLearn but I have been listening to the podcasts for the past year. Finally jumped in to start previewing and taking classes. I have been selling fine art paintings for the past 20 years. Trying to transition into illustration. Let me know what you think.

@deborah-Haagenson thank you it’s so nice to see comments like this!

Here’s my entry for this month’s critique arena contest. I’m not sure how I feel about it as it’s the first time I’ve tried to create anything without line work (just to try something different and venture outside of my comfort zone) but I’m submitting anyway.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is bringing to the table. For some reason this prompt stumped me more than expected so I’m curious how others tackled this one.
Oh, I also decided to throw some text in there for fun. It could be a big misstep but I figured I’d give it a shot anyway and see how it fared.
Good luck everyone:)

Hello everyone this is my first time entering. I have been doing children's book illustrations for independent children's authors for the past year or so and I want to up-level my skills here on SVS.
Thank you to all who helped me with this piece in the thread. Loving all the different styles and perspectives so far. -
@David-starfas this concept is quite unique.

@Gabby-Correia Welcome - Very cute! Nice style!!
