Here we go. Assignment number... I don’t know. If you’re seeing this though you know what I’m talking about.

This was a bit of a challenge for me but fun! Pretty rough around the edges for a first attempt but I think I may try this more moving forward. I’ve always liked the idea of coming up with images by combining two elements but I usually do it with animals and people or props and what not, never vehicles. I have a whole new world to explore now!

Please, feedback is always welcome from the SVS family. Thanks:)

@Stephen-Dueck The shapes in this spaceship are awesome. I like how rough and worn it looks. Gives it character and tells a story!

Assignment 5 in the books. This is the KST-4S3X1 Research Cruiser aka Old Blue.

I didn’t bother spending much time on the background, just wanted something in there. Also, I really need to up my details game as I couldn’t think of much else to add to this ship before finalizing. Mind you, I didn’t pull any reference which probably would have yielded some good ideas.

here are the things I've drawn so far. Still struggling with getting good lines.

@Bricz-Art I just realized this was supposed to be a mash up of two boats.. I don’t know where I heard ‘plane and boat’ haha. Ah well, I’m going with it for now and will be sure to read the assignment details better next time.

@Lize looks good! Don’t sweat the line work as much, just focus on the design concept. I’ve come to realize that being super tight with the lines and trying to make them look perfect almost takes away from the drawing. Just keep it clean and let it be natural and I think you’ll be happy with the outcome if there’s a good foundation underneath.

Needed some time to figure this out – I keep mixing 'function' with functionality / mechanical complexity, whereas it's supposed to be wether it's fitting the character and it's environment, right @shanehunt? Not sure if by making them 'on-brand', they automatically fit though... Anyway, here's 4 vehicles you'd find in Thanos' garage. :-]

@Bricz-Art thanks. I guess you're right, but it's difficult to ignore all my little irritations with the lines in the moment 🙂

@PieterVanDerBeek I really like the top left design.. it reminds me of a sup’d up speeder bike from Star Wars. Well done!

This was supposed to be the 'strong' car. I thought stretching the lower part of the car to be higher and choosing a viewing angle from below would make it feel stronger, but it ended up mostly just looking like a flying car... 🙃 still a good drawing exercise though. Now to figure out why this worked in my head, but not on 'paper'.

Haven't done the lessons on shadow and colour yet, can't wait to learn how to make stuff like this feel more 'alive'.

@Lize It looks a lot stronger than your ‘weak car’. And great work on the perspective! :-] I think the angle from below could work really well if maybe it was grounded on a surface?

@PieterVanDerBeek love these designs so much!
                                        I was just wondering
how is the class in terms of difficulty level?
are the assignments fun and more rendering or concept based?
                                        thanks!

@krish-iyer It's in the second tier of the curriculum, number 6 on the 'path' – I think if you've finished the basics (perspective and light&shadow) and feel comfortable about it you should be up for the prop design or vehicle design class. :-]
