Little truck in the snow process.
-
Hi Leontine . What would you like to know about the process.
-
You managed to make a piece of machinery look sweet - I love it! I really like the bird a lot too... Do you do a value study before you add the color - is that what the bottom pic is?
-
@amberwingart Hi Amber. I will do my local colour first and then i will check my values. I found doing my values first I would be painting twice.
-
@Lee-Holland What's "local color?"
-
Local colour Is the flat colour that is not in light or shadow. The pure colour of the object.
-
I really love the color and the design of the truck! I only have one issue with the story telling on the bird because it does not seem to stare right at the truck to have enough eyes contact. I'm maybe wrong because I don't know the whole story, the bird could be staring at something else. Just a thought.

Nice!! I saw some of your publication works and im in love with the snowman and bird piece, was wondering how you achieve that grainy almost color-pencil look (unless thats a trade secret haha)? Im guessing its a combination of a special brush and a texture overlay but it looks so consistent and natural which is difficult to achieve.

Lee, I love this illustration in so many ways, the characters, the lighting, the colors, the textures. I am watching the drawing and how-to-color videos. So happy I know "local color" and other terms now. Thank you for posting the sketches with the vanishing points. On the sketch with the vertical lines, are those lines parallel? Thanks for showing your reference photos too, it gives insight into your process.

@Leontine I'am so curious What brush you use to create this chalky softness....
-
@Leontine Hi
Will terry explains the texture brush in his photoshop power day course. My brush was created by using a piece of watercolour paper. I painted over it then scanned it though to my computer, Then I defined the pattern to create the brush. Hope this helps -
love that brush too. is it similar to the "amibe" default texture in photoshop? that's the one I use so far but Im not entirely satisfied by it. Im going to have to do my own texture brush too one of these days...
