JUNE CONTEST: Meet Albert!
-
Hi all! The June prompt is here, it's another character design challenge, yay!
Be sure to upload your entry on the Critique Arena website to officially enter the contest, but post here too so we can all see and comment on your beautiful work! As always, keep this thread for final images only
This monthโs prompt comes to us from Jake Parker, hereโs the details:
โMeet Albert! Heโs furry, fun, and always getting into trouble.
Follow the adventures of this mischievous mammal in this imagined new series of books for kids.
Your assignment is to design a new character that would potentially be in books, a PBS animated series, stuffed animals, and a learning app for kids.
The character's name is Albert. He's a young mammal of some kind. You pick!
Albert is furry and the size of a kindergartener. Albert was a wild animal that is now living with a family. He is learning how to have manners, how to be responsible, make friends, and how to help out around the house.
He's cute, playful, a little mischievous, and kind.
He should have some item of clothing on him, like a hat, shirt, pants, shoes. But ONLY one.
What we want from you is a character design sheet for Albert.
Every entry must have 5 color drawings on ONE page:
-1 neutral pose front, 3/4 view
-1 neutral post back, 3/4 view
-1 walking or running pose
-1 sitting pose (ground or chair)
-1 close up of face
What can you do to make the character stand out from ALL the other designs of furry friends for children you've seen? Think of the character's background, personality, wants, and needs. All of these attributes will play an important role in the creativity of your design.
Allright, good luck!โ

Just to clarify, this is not a real assignment, it's made up for the purposes of the contest! It's meant to be like a dream assignment

@LisaF is the size template the same as before?
-
Omg this is sooo fun!
-
Is there a background color requirement?
-
Love this! I am going to be working on another self publishing project, and want to do a character challenge to get moving. Do you have a page size you expect? I'm going to get my son to do this with me too. He is 12. Great inspiration with all the talent out there. And he loves Jake's work.

hello everyone! I am new here so I am trying to get used to the interface! I liked the topic of this challenge so I had a lot of fun with this character.
I hope I used the template correctly, I donโt know if it is supposed to have all that much white space around the image or if I was supposed to stretch it all the way to the edges. I would appreciate if anyone could clarify that to meUpdate: I stretched the image to reach closer to the edges of the template and modified the background on the bottom right image with the fridge being a mess instead of falling over.

My attempt at an Albert. I crave alliteration :

@KGatto My daughter is 12 and I will appoint her as my special assistent-tester ( not letting her actually on the team because she will try to take over :))))

Good idea including a friend on the bench ... helps to show scale.
