I don't do water color, but I imagine that staying loose is part of the key to getting this effect. Its part of the reason I don't. lol. Nice job!

@Charlie-Eve-Ryan I can definitely tell with this bird that you are loosening up more and more. I like that you are allowing negative space as well as the areas with values to work together in this one also! Really enjoying seeing your progress.

@bharris @Rich-Green Thanks so much. I'm trying to not over think it too much or worry about a misplaced mark or stroke. Not easy, but fun for sure!

@Charlie-Eve-Ryan - there is an artist whose ink/watercolor work I really love. Her name is Abby Diamond and she has this amazingly detailed - almost technical drawing line work she does in ink but then she is very loose and uses the colors and movement of the watercolor to add so much life and personality to her lines.

Maybe because you did a bird it made me think of her.

But I thought you might enjoy seeing a few samples of her work - in hope that it might help inspire you to remain loose with the paint on your next piece! Look at how she really uses the flow of the watercolor to go outside the lines and create motion. You can see on the blue bird that she blows on the wet paint to create those streaks coming off the wings and embraces drip marks etc.

@Rich-Green Oh her work is gorgeous, thanks for the heads up! I will definitely look at more of her work for inspiration. The hummingbird is stunning! I may have to find one to draw/paint. 😃

@Charlie-Eve-Ryan This hummingbird picture popped up in my Twitter feed yesterday - it made me want to paint one with all those beautiful tiny feathers...
