How are you getting work?
-
COVID has shifted a lot of things, including the illustration industry. A few months ago I posted about my mailing list for postcards but it was brought up that right now there is no one to send cards to because art directors are working from home. This is one of many roadblocks right now. I figured we could all help each other out by sharing how we’ve been able to get work lately.

@griffin id be curious about this as well. Ive reached out to a few illustration agencies but i dont have much intuition on how to organise or present my art, they dont seem interested in working with me.

@artofaleksey @Griffin I shared some ideas in the latest podcast thread before seeing this post. They aren't definitive, but just some thoughts.

@griffin I'm trying to send out emails with my portfolio to art directors (from bigger pub. houses), but it's quite difficult to find out the proper email addresses. I know how to find names, but the contacts aren't (of course) listed anywhere, so that's what's complicated. I also try to connect with them via Twitter and LinkedIn.
And there is a ton of medium sized publishers with guidelines how to submit your art portfolio, so I do that too. But you need to go really big, don't send out just a couple of emails, rather like hundreds...
Is the situation with art directors working from home still the same? In my country (I live in europe) , mostly everyone is back in the office now. So I'm curious how is it in US.
