List of illustration conferences/contests?
-
Hi guys,
I was wondering what events/conferences/fests/contests/awards are out there for children's book illustrators to participate in?
Here are some from the top of my head:
- SCBWI hosts 2 annual conferences - Summer and Winter conference (they also have a no. of regional workshops)
- SCBWI Portfolio Showcase
- World Illustration Awards showcase by the AOI
- Picture Hooks festival
- Bologna Children's Book (I've personally not been able to figure out how to utilise this event online)
- Lightbox Expo (mostly for visual development artists in gaming/animation - less to do with publishing)
Looking forward to finding more such events!

@neha-rawat That's a good start for a list! I was able to attend at least some Bologna sessions online last year. I think I also subscribed to a YouTube channel, but there was a way to attend some sessions live. If I can figure it out again, I'll let you know. I was all ready to go back to Bologna in person again this year, but with Omicron, as they say in Italy...Boh!

@Neha-Rawat,
You have got an excellent list. What I can think of to add to the list is
Frankfort book fair. I have heard other illustrators saying it is a good place to network.Different countries/regions will probably have their big book fairs. But it might be more local.
I am also interested in going for a creative retreat for picturebook creators when the world resembles normal again. I have heard a few creative retreats in the US. But it is a bit too pricy for me to go to the US. I will look around the European continent for such opportunities. I heard about one in the UK - Orange Beak. I will look into it.

@xin-li I'd be very interested in a European creative retreat! Let me know if you find one! And likewise, if I hear of one I'll let you know.
