Yeah, you're not the only one. There's a whole subculture dedicated to people who grew up with CN, Nick and Disney Channel. I don't know why there's such a stigma against adults watching cartoons. It doesn't signify their overall maturity. If you can enjoy Popeye and Charlie Brown as a 70 year old something with grandkids, then surely a 20/30 year old something can enjoy classic Disney movies and other animation.
Also animation isn't always for kids ya' know. Very important thing to note.

For me those old late 90's cartoons are the best cartoons ever, both in style and humor.

I personally will always love the classics, Scooby is one of my faves, but I also dig younger generation classics too like spongebob, gravity falls, currently catching up on avatar the last air bender. Wow writing it out makes me feel extra nerdy hahaha I’m ok with it tho.

It’s funny hearing the 90s cartoons being referred to as old
I’m a fan of the 1940s cartoons! Now those were classic.I’ve watching cartoons since I was a kid and… let’s say I’m in Will Terry’s age bracket
in fact, I’m still buying cartoon DVDs.The funny thing about the stigma about adults watching cartoons is the cartoons from the 30s to 50s were for adults. Not children. Well, there were cartoons made for children (like Disney) but cartoons such as Popeye, Looney Tunes, etc. we’re for adults. It wasn’t until television came along when they started aiming them at kids, editing the cartoons, etc. Unfortunately, it made cartoons really watered down by the 80s and it took The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse to do something different (which eventually led to tiny Toons and Animaniacs). Sorry, I went off on a tangent.

@danielerossi hahaha! I enjoy a good cartoon from every era! I didn’t realize those og ones were aimed toward adults though, but it totally makes sense now.

@asyas_illos The Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies were essentially early music videos. They were made to sell sheet music to the songs played in the cartoons which, in turn, Warner Bros owned and used in their movies
On a slightly different topic, I’ve always been fascinated by how cartoons seem to not be considered exclusively for kids in Japan while the opposite happened on this side of the ocean. And maybe around the world, too? I don’t know if any other country has the same regard for cartoons as Japan.

@asyas_illos I love cartoons!! I’m the only one in my family that wants to watch Charlie Brown Christmas every year. One of my all time favorite movies is Song of the Sea. And, I kept Hilda to myself for quite a while. Watched the whole first season on my own before I shared it with my kids. I wanted to be able to pause it and take in the artwork whenever I wanted to. Also a huge fan of the Studio Ghibli films.

I don't watch them as much anymore, mainly because I'm too busy. I've just finished watching 'Arcane' from the League of Legends, on Netflix. It's just for adults, but the animation is so amazing! The storyline and characters is also really well fleshed out.

@pamela-fraley If you’re a fan of Art Deco, definitely check out the Superman cartoons from the Fleischer/Famous studios inthe 1940s. Jaw dropping, cinematic, atmospheric artwork.

Another cartoon I can recommend is The Big Bad Fox. It’s three stories in one film. Made for kids but adults will enjoy it, too. And really hilarious. Plus, the artwork is like a children’s book.

Yes, I still watch animated films, and I'm 48. In fact, I think it was probably my love of animated films that got me into illustration.There is a lot of animation that is not specifically for young children, such as When The Wind Blows, or the original Watership Down film. They're traumatic in a similar way to Bambi or Pinnochio, but done in a British way.
I watched the American film Coco the other day, and it made me cry! But there's so much great animation being produced in different countries. Check out the classic Russian short film Hedgehog in the Fog (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS5mxXtStOY) and, of course, the recent Spanish film Klaus.

@danielerossi I will definitely do that! I love the Art Deco era, and Art nouveau. I also love a little bit later when Eyvind Earle was painting backgrounds for Disney. So beautiful.

Sleeping Beauty was my favorite as a little girl.
(I was 10-12 when The Little Mermaid & Beauty & the Beast came out.) Now that there are so many more, I can't really choose a favorite! -
Yes, I still enjoy animated shows & movies, and I like children's books & YA fiction. (I'm 42, with no kids — but I have several nieces & nephews!)
Animated shows have been especially helpful to me when my health hasn't been so good. (I have chronic illness, and I've had a few surgeries.) I've found that more light-hearted shows help me feel better.
Binge-watching "Hilda", "Miraculous", & "Steven Universe" kept me distracted during some tough recovery from my last surgery. (During the worst periods, less complicated storylines are good!) "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is another good one.
But I enjoy these kinds of stories anytime!
It's also nice to not have "scandalous" material, since I like keep it PG.
I enjoy more grown-up fantasy stories as well, like "Locke & Key", & "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", or dramas like "This is Us", & "Ordinary Joe".
