Riley feedback
-
I’m feeling pretty good about where this is at but that’s all the more reason to get feedback. I’m between the first and second pass right now and figured I should get some feedback before pushing ahead.
Specific concerns:
-
Is the footprint of the robot in the garage coming across as a footprint? Granted it’s a bit messier than it will be when I do the next pass over it but I still can’t seem to pin down the right look for a giant robot print in concrete. Maybe there’s no indentation at all and just some cracks and a print from paint that was stepped in?
-
Does the scale of the robot feel right? I didn’t think this was an issue but someone I asked for feedback from said they couldn’t quite tell.
-
Should there be debris all over the garage from the robot busting through the roof? Initially I thought this would make sense but since the roof isn’t in picture I feel like debris all over the place would make it more confusing not less. I also figure that if this kid can build a robot then he can definitely make a roof that opens up. I guess I’m mostly looking for confirmation that I made the right call there because I’m really not sure I’ll have time to draw in a bunch of debris
Edit: I thought I just had is that if I remove the footprint from the garage then there wouldn’t need to be debris in the garage but this is a moot point if you guys think the lack of debris isn’t a problem anyways.
Aside from those points let me know if there is anything else that could be fixed!

Ok so firstly this is really well done so far, great job! Secondly, it did take me a second to find the footprint at first I thought you meant blueprints, so I don’t think it’s entirely clear that it is in fact, a footprint. As far as the debris I think that if it were clear he went out through the roof, there would be a bit of debris, but as with anything that explodes from the inside, most of the mess tends to be on the outside, so I think your safe there. Lastly, you definitely need something else out there by the robot to show scale. The hand in the garage is huge but there’s nothing near the rest of the robot to carry that on. Hope that helps can’t wait to see more!

@asyas_illos thanks! I’ve got Riley on top of the robot for scale but it’s so rough right now that that probably isn’t very clear. I’ll add some trees and bushes in the background to better show the scale
-
@griffin oh man I didn’t even catch that tiny Riley on top! That’s great then!
-
@asyas_illos maybe I should add that I am curious as to the story. Why is he missing his hand? Is Riley trying to get him back to the garage so he can complete him?
-
@asyas_illos the way I’ve imagined it is that Riley was so excited about the robot working that they didn’t even worry about attaching the hand. I’m also going to have little notes on the sticky notes on the bottom right that say things along the lines of "left hand needs work but the rest is almost fully functional!"

@griffin sound good

I think you did a good job of making the garage look trashed, and you have a lot of items as evidence of making the robot.
I agree that it's confusing why one hand was left behind.
I noticed the boy on top of the robot (plus the huge hand), so I think the scale is clear. But it wouldn't hurt to add some trees, too.
I didn't notice the footprints at all (inside or outside). But now that you point them out, it seems off. The legs & hips of the robot (what we can see) are about the same thickness as the arms. The footprints on the hill seem only slightly bigger, but the footprint in the garage seems larger than the ones outside. Also, why is the foot just a circle when the hand is so detailed? My suggestion is to just take out the footprints. Although, you can leave the one in the garage, since it just looks like part of the mess to me, and not left by anything in particular.
I don't think you need to worry about the debris. Whether or not the roof is intact doesn't seem very important to me. I would make sure that the inside of the garage is darker than outside; to emphasize that we are inside a building, since you can only barely see the edges of the walls.
