I'm doing the Illustrating Children's Books Parts 1 & 2 courses on SVS (as well as all the other SVS courses!). If you have also done them, considering Part 1 & 2 include the manuals/workbook downloads etc, would you say that this book is still worth investing in?

@adam-thornton-0 So far, I like the book. The first 50 pages or so are just basic information about illustrating. The rest of the book is broken down into 8 different children’s books where the illustrator goes over their thought process during the development of the book. It’s worth it to me, but I have nothing to compare it to either. I am brand new at this. Pretty simple reading

@adam-thornton-0 not sure if I’ve done those. They are the normal classes aren’t they, not the CBPro classes? I joined the first CBPro course but I’m going through it very slowly. It’s finding the time!

I’ll have a look at the courses you are mentioning and see what the comparison is. Although it’s a nice book anyway, and I do like a nice book. I combine books and tutorials. I like the fact you can just go to a page and have the page open, you don’t have to keep rewinding it. I have lots of art books, I may be an obsessive

@lizardillo Thanks for your reply, Liz. You made me smile when you said that you do like a nice book. I do too, and I found a review YouTube video of this book and it looks very well made, although gotta watch the budget.

Also, hope you don't mind me asking but, as you said that you have done the first CBPro course, I'm still unsure as to how it compares to all the other SVS courses we have. I appreciate that you've not seen all the courses and are working through the CBPro course slowly, but would you be able to say if you think it's worth paying the extra? Can you comment on if it is really that different to the main SVS courses?

@adam-thornton-0 I wouldn't be able to sorry, I'm not very far through it. Other's may be in a better position to say as they have completed it. CBPro provides specially written manuscripts that I'm not sure the other courses do.

You may need to start a new thread and ask if anyone has completed both the courses and the CBPro as this one is about the book and others may not spot your question.

All signed up for CBP 2022, and just finished this book. The info was good, but basic I think. I did like reading the thought process behind each book. Although each story wasn't written the best, the illustration process was nice to see... Now on to CBPro.....

@adam-thornton-0 I would describe the classes as building specific art skills and CBPro as learning how it all goes together to make a finished book - including industry processes from start to finish. If you think of building a house - the classes are like learning how to be a carpenter and CBPro like learning how to be an architect. Even though I still have a lot of skill building ahead of me, I found CBPro gave me a direction to aim for. Hope his helps. Cheers!
