@lpetiti Yay, welcome to Procreate! This is a cute idea, but I think the girl's eyes need to have a clearer focus, either on the drawing or on the stuffed animals. I think the white reflected dot in her eyes may be confusing things.

@Valerie-Light I see what you mean. Should the dot move down more?

@lpetiti tough to say for sure. Maybe make another layer on top and try a few options out for comparison?

When thinking about specular light, you have to think of the iris as being a bowl with a slight cone to the inside of the eye. Where light hits, it’ll also bounce out of the other side of the pupil ever so slightly.

When the eye looks downward, the pupil still remains in the middle of the iris. In your illustration the pupil is at the bottom of the iris. Because we know what eyes look like, so naturally and subconsciously, anything off in the eyes won’t read well in a illustration. When the character looks downward, it is also quite difficult to look down without the eyelids following, even in a surprised expression.

I did up a little diagram that I hope helps a bit. I love light and eyes. Two of my very favourite subjects.

More changes…I’m stuck doing daytime sleep tests all day so I’ve got a lot of downtime to work on this today! Any critiques?

@lpetiti I like the addition of the window but it seems you are still struggling with the girl a bit I would suggest you tilt her whole head more. I hope you don’t I did a draw over to show you. I also made you background smaller to put a little distance between the characters it seemed she was smashed to close to the wall and you may want to add a hint of a chair I assume she is sitting down to draw? Hope this helps you😊
