MAY CONTEST: Storm!
-
Boy, I really should’ve watched Wills interior design class, before I did that last one lol!
-
The Aussie Dust Storm can create all sorts of problems, especially if you aren't prepared!!
-
Here is my entry. Went analog this month and did this entirely traditional with colored pencils (well, there were a few Photoshop edits post-scan!).
-
And ... thought I'd use this month's prompt (cuz it was a good one!) to do a second illustration on toned paper. Wanted to test out how the toned paper handled watercolor and colored pencil. Next time, I think I'm going to try a gouache base under the colored pencils to help the colors pop against the grey background (I had to do a bit of color adjusting in Photoshop). All in all, it was a fun experiment!

@Melissa_Bailey Oh I love the way you painted the first cloud, the second image is my favourite. Once again you have captured a feeling of movement and joy. A good contender for the top 16.

Wind Storm
I finished more than 10 mins before the deadline this time! -
Here goes for my entry! Love seeing what everyone’s making!!!
Weirdly, I remember coming up with this concept of someone selling rubber duckies out in the rain years ago, but never made a finished drawing of it. It seemed like such a whimsical little moment to capture. This was the perfect opportunity to give it a go!
-
@Valerie-Light Nice cutaway scene!
-
@Melissa_Bailey wow Melissa. These are both fantastic and have so much emotion. Love them both equally. Crossing fingers and toes for the top 16 for you
-
@Melissa_Bailey You got some really beautiful textures going on here!
-
Went for an old-school comic book feel for this one.
-
@emily-atwood-art But the deadline is at the stroke of midnight 31st May? I like this a lot Emily, especially your colour and sense of liveliness about the image, and your characters are fun.

This post is deleted! -
Here is my entry at last, I enjoyed the process though it was a long one and I learned so much, though I almost gave up. Funnily enough the last few days we started to have storms!
I hope I can get some feedback on this image, it is the best I can do for now.
-
@PenAndrew Good job! I like how it turned out, especially the waves and the cracks in the teacup.
-
@PenAndrew thanks Andrew! I like yours too, it made me laugh
-
@AlliFaith @emily-atwood-art Thank you both.

The Calm During the Storm.
When I was little I was afraid of storms. I have a memory of my dad sitting with me, on Pelee Island Ontario, watching a storm. It was the first time I was not afraid. Him explaining to me the fact that light travels faster than sound and that it was off in the distance calmed me. -
@PenAndrew thanks so much! I like how you approached "storm in a teacup"!
-
@Melissa_Bailey Thanks. It wasn't easy to go with my idea, but these monthly prompts are such a great discipline, they really help.
