Skills needed to be an artist
-
I've been drawing more than before, but I think it's far from enough because there are always days that I don't draw anything at all, or I just draw what I'm used to draw. I think my issue with this is that I don't have a methodical structure in general where I can see what to focus on next. I will be getting a "structure" this month, when I start my mentorship, but it will last only 5 month and I want something I can work on my own after finishing it.
I've been reading books about habits and learning psychology, adding to that I listened to a Proko podcast about "gamification", so I wanted to create a mental map of the skills needed to be an artist. The issue is that I don't have a "macro" view of everything, and I got stuck just putting a few stuffs there.
My request is to get some help with getting some reading materials about the fundamentals, probably, that may have a general view of the skills needed. I kind of want something like this:
It's because I want to break down everything to the simplest things, and put an arbitrary minimum amount of time per block that I have to work on each, make it like "mini quest" that will take me to the "main quest".
I found this: https://www.brendanmeachen.com/soloartist but I feel it is too general and doesn't really break down everything like I want.EDIT: I think that what I really want is like a skill tree. Normally in those games you can't learn a skill without learning first the ones that comes before. I want something like that visually, that I can put on a wall and fill by myself depending on the number of hours that I have spent on it.
In that way I can feel my progress and a sense of fulfillment for going forward.

@Eliana-Bastidas I'm not sure if this is what you had in mine, but if you want everything summed up neatly in one course, the "Starting your journey" class by Cody Gramstad on Schoolism may be of interest to you.
Here is the description:
Starting your journey is like a high-intensity boot camp for aspiring artists, but it doesn't have to be as daunting as it sounds. If you've struggled with your artistic journey, have difficulty improving your art, or just aren't sure where to begin, this is the course for you! We will start at the very beginning and break down all of the fundamental skills you will need in order to have a successful career in the arts. Each week of this class will cover a different topic, including discussing lines and shapes, combining color and lighting, enhancing your visual story, and polishing up your image. Each lesson comes together and builds upon itself so that, by the end of the course, you will have a fully completed painting. I hope you'll join me as we embark on this artistic journey together!
The image he works on is quite cute and would be helpful for children's book illustrators, concept and visual artists, etc.
There isn't any gamification, but the course is logical and builds upon itself in a natural way as you progress through the illustration.
Again, I'm not sure if this is what you were thinking of, but I hope it helps!

@Meekipink thanks! Yes, Actually the mentorship I was talking about was referring to Cody’s and Jonathan’s course essential of realism. I’m about to start Jonathan’s, I just wanted a way to practice on my own, but I already talked with him and he told me that I needed to specialize and have a target in mind instead of doing something so general.
