Prompt Generator
-
Hey,
With the monthly challenges no longer happening. Does anybody know of a type of prompt generator to help come up with certain ideas? I’m trying to build a new portfolio, I feel my current work is old, and want to do fresh work up. It's just difficult to come up with new ideas and situations.Thanks, everyone

@ACPetullo Hi!
I was struggling with this too and then I took the Developing Great Visual Stories course here at SVS and recognized I could make my own random prompt generator!!!
Basically, what I did (and what Will suggests in the course) is to create a table with three columns:
- Animal / Human / Creature
- Noun
- Adjective
And then list as many things as you can - I have about 25 items in each column but you could have many many more!
Then on days where I'm struggling to come up with something, I use googles random # generator 3 times to get a number for each column.
Last week, it gave me "Penguin" "Book" and "Wet" and after sketching and messing around with different ideas, it resulted in this:
Still have work to do to improve the perspective, but it got me out of my comfort zone, and ultimately got me creating
Best of luck!

Lisa Bardot has a random generator: https://bardotbrush.com/what-should-i-draw/
Today I got: You should draw a smaller than average sushi roll that is doing a lot of stinking.
There's also a random one word prompt for something simpler and a link to a random procreate palette.

@ashleegoovaerts Hey, this is a great advice! I always struggle with that, been trying to develop processes over the years to get ideas but I always end up lost HAHAHAHA. Gotta take that class too! Thank you very much for sharing

Hi! Well, I've been struggling with that for years with that honestly, but something that has kinda been working for me lately is to write down on pieces of paper objects or themes or things I like to draw (each one on separate pieces, folding them). Then I put them inside a bottle, mix them up and every time I want to draw, I just draw two or three folded pieces of paper and try to write a small sentence/story with those words, so I can develop an illustration later with that. It's a bit of a long process, but I found it very useful! Hope it helps!

@ashleegoovaerts
Sorry for the delayed response but that is a wonderful idea I don’t think I even knew the course existed . That’s a good strategy to come up with so many ideas. Thanks for the tips!
