Working Traditionally!

My Apple Pencil went out on me. I was doing great drawing interior spaces, exterior environments etc, (because I could use grids, straight lines, and fix things over and over, zoom in, etc) . Well, rather than waiting the weeks until my tax return gets here to draw, I'm working traditionally. Things that were so easy for me to do in procreate are driving me nuts on paper, but as I have been struggling through the interior design class with my pencil and paper, I am actually accomplishing the tasks of maping out the 3d room without a ruler or anything. I am grateful for the digital tools, but I am also glad I can make it happen traditionally too!

@ksfabian Glad to hear your going ahead with traditional I think it can be especially beneficial for drawing and sketching phases.
I feel like working digitally is just a habit as is working traditionally. one or the other feels so daunting when you're not used to it but if you do it a lot you can easily get used to either one. I kinda miss my school days when I had to constantly switch back and forth between traditional and digital for different classes and assignments. It really made me unafraid of trying something new. now I work pretty much all digital and it saves a lot of time on stuff but its kinda given me a fear of even trying to do anything traditional because it might not turn out as well or be a failure. Maybe I need my tech to break to get me to overcome my fears.

@Mimi-Simon Yeah, I used to only work traditionally, but once I got my ipad, I stopped because pulling out all those supplies seemed daunting, but now I realize there were things I wasn't improving on due to tricks and mechanics. I'm pretty happy that I was able to finished thumbnailing out my 20 page comic yesterday on paper.

@ksfabian @Mimi-Simon I'm in the same boat here. I love the push from clients and a school setting, to push me past the over thinking aspect as well. Joining a critique group I feel will be so helpful here, because I feel that added component of having to be accountable will add depth to this process and "force" me out of my comfort zone.

@ArtistErin ooh good idea. I have a crit group for writing that's been helpful, but no idea how to make one for art. Any tips?

Sorry to hear about your Apple Pencil @ksfabian , but glad to see you’re not letting that stop you from going traditional! Look forward to seeing what you’re working on here.

@ksfabian Still trying to coordinate as a “seeker” through SCBWI, and I have yet to get integrated, however I’m anticipating good things: growth, learning, hopefully good friendships, support and I’ve heard possible gigs and connections in the business. At the very least, a way to shake things up, be inspired, and get better!!
