Nathan Fowkes class
-
So I'm seriously considering taking a 3 day seminar with Nathan Fowkes. It's $500CAD and would be totally worth every penny... the downside is it starts at 3am my time. Am i bat crap cray? Or should I just go all out. (I have two little kids)
-
@AngelinaKizz Nathan was one of my teachers and he is amazing. A true master of painting and art in general. I think you should study with him any time you get the chance. : )
-
I don't think so. I would kill to take a course with Nathan Fowkes. I have a couple of his books which are just beautiful. But there is a lot you can learn from that guy, especially in the realm of color design.
-
@Lee-White thanks for the encouragement Lee! If it weren't 3am I wouldn't even second guess lol. I guess I'm gonna go for it and get up at 3am! Lol

@AngelinaKizz Hi Angelina,
I'm assuming that the 3-day seminar is online. Do you think it would be significantly different from doing his courses on Schoolism, as an addendum to your SVS training? I've done that and felt it was worth it.I wonder how much of Nathan's attention you will get during those 3 days. Do you know how many other people are enrolled, i.e. how much of his personal attention to your work will you be competing for?
$500 does sound like a lot and 3am does sound fairly early, if you're not used to it.

Well as it turns out, I’ve been mulling over this decision for a good week, and in the end my Spanish sucks HAHA. The seminar is in person. In Spain. I was certain i had selected the online seminars not in person seminars, Whoever has the ability to go to Spain absolutely should! I am quite sad.
I took the online seminar with Marco Bucci through Galaria Roja, and it was way better than any online class purchase. It was a small class, and lots of conversing back and forth. We had homework that was critiqued the next day. He did portfolio reviews… it was absolutely epic.
-
@AngelinaKizz That sounds epic. I desperately need to give something like that a try. At some point all my money won't be going to other things Haha.

@AngelinaKizz
Ah, Marco Bucci! That class sounds great. He's been really kind to me over the years.
Frankly, Marco and Will Terry are the reasons I got into illustration. Marco's style just makes me so happy. I'm waiting for the day Marco publishes a book with his green monster character!Sorry you're not going to Spain though. I don't know where you are but it's still officially winter here in the UK and I could do with some lovely Spanish sunshine!

@Blitz55 Nathan's amazing, isn't he!
His daily Instagram posts make me feel sick with envy ha ha! They really motivate me to get better. -
@Lee-White Wow! Did Nathan teach you at Art Center, Lee? He's one of the real modern-day greats!

@Adam-Thornton-0 Marco is incredible. His class was mind blowing. I’m a hairstylist and I work with the color wheel every day. As an artist that did mostly portraits, I went more intuitively based on what I saw in the photo rather than conjuring up color palettes. Marco took what I knew of color, flipped it upside down and backwards, and reprogrammed my entire understanding. The lightbulb going on… total understatement.
I’m in Canada. And right smack in the middle. We’re still knee deep in snow, and in deep freeze. I can’t wait for the sun to warm up and start melting this junk! I need some flowers and Colors in my daily outings. Haha.
On the upside though, a 98000 square foot indoor tropical botanical garden opened up not far from home. It’s a glass building, so you feel like you’re outdoors, and there’s even an active waterfall within the building. There’s two sides, a humid rainforest side, and a dry botanical side. I plan to spend all of my dreary days there, with lots of plein aire inspo!

@Adam-Thornton-0 I actually studied with him at two schools. Art Center, and Associates in Art which is a figure drawing school that used to exist in Sherman Oaks California. Those classes were 10 weeks and only like $325. It was amazing. He was my first painting instructor and the class was head painting.

@Lee-White
Having a teacher of Nathan's calibre at the start of your painting journey sounds like a real blessing. And combined with all the hard work that you have put in to it, there's a certain inevitability to your success as an illustrator! Being a former (science) teacher myself, I've seen that it does make a real difference to find top quality teachers.On a slightly other note, Lee - do you know what happened with Nathan's eye? I hope he's ok.

@AngelinaKizz
That's wonderful that you had that lightbulb-going-on experience! Those moments are the best, aren't they!As for being in the snow, I do love snow and the clean whiteness is beautiful, but it can become a bit much after too long. Why not paint those colourful flowers in Marco Bucci styley!
That indoor garden sounds amazing! I think I'd be there all the time. Here in Sheffield, UK, we have the Winter Garden, which is similar but yours sounds bigger and better!
