Figure Drawing Fundamentals plus random draw from reference
-
been too long since i posted here.
digression - when i started figure drawing and then tried to draw shapes in multiple angles/pov/perspective in readiness for next stage of Figure Drawing Fundamentals - Proportion - i got frustrated. hard to say why but i just hated my drawings.
i totally forgot i have given myself minimum 5 years to learn fundamentals and improve on my line work. all of a sudden the desire to grind the hours in during free time (when my kids asleep at night) and then enjoy the process of learning to draw turned into a depressing and dire situation. i'm not in the clear but i now come to a realisation that I have been too harsh on myself and lost patience instead of being kind to myself and building patience. I made a further error and joined Deviant Art seeking another art community to learn from. Instead i found myself doing more art viewing than actually drawing something using the basics i learn from Parker's How to Draw everything and from David Hohn's Basic Perspective. if you're like me finding you hit a wall and it hurts, it's OK. it's part of the journey. it's OK to fail and fail and fail. Don't quit. that is the killer - quitting.
Digression over. let me hand in some practice and get feedback. time to get back on track.
Draw from Reference - ref photo of lady in red in midst of greenery is sourced from Pexels - I was trying to find and draw the lines of action from this model, trying to study her pose. i've inked over my pencil line work but hopefully you can see what i was trying to do. i see areas where if i had spent more time observing i'd know where to start and where to erase and correct. definitely need to develop observation skills and be a bit more patient. i'm happy i drew something
next files are me using green pastel working on gesture. i am also revisiting Jake's How to draw everything to keep working on my line work.
thanks for checking these out and your feedback is much appreciated

hi
Gesture drawing is more about your feelings, your own interpretation of a figure.
I think Lady-InRed is a bit complicated reference for your studies& Try to use a nude figure. Try to start with very simple abstract lines trying to catch a gesture, than add schematic anatomical lines and draw a silhouette. Than just add clothes and hair.
