HOW TO FIX YOUR ART! Book is now available!
-
@Jeremy-Ross The checklist is going to be free for annual subscribers along with a discount for the class/book. Email should be going out this week with that info. : )
-
Thanks, @Lee-White !!!
The How to Fix your Art videos really helped me even though none of my pieces were ever selected for critique. I’m sure I can make my art even better, but just making a few tweaks made a significant difference, I think…
Thanks, again!

Hello
To everyone with an annual subscription, did you already geht an email? I am still waiting for mine to buy the book
-
@Jeremy-Ross great strategical approach you got there!
-
@Annika-Wenzel We are adding some additional pages and doing some editing. the announcement will go out early next week! : )
-
@Lee-White that sounds great, thank you!

Hey @Lee-White , I'm wondering: In some podcasts you said that the 200 pages PDF would be FREE for all annual subscribers.
When did you three have the change of mind? I have to admit that I'm a little bit dissapointed. It's like somebody promising you chocolate... and then you are only SHOWN the sweets but are not allowed to taste it. -
@MimiHecher i can see how that is a bummer, but it makes business sense. Since it is such an evergreen resource once you download it, it makes sense to put it behind a paywall. Plus, its a new thing so different from the courses, they probably wanted to make new money off it—businesses need money afterall. I think they probably compromised giving it out for free to certain people for the overall low price plus the discount for annual subs. Paying for it also means you will probably actually use it. Im not sure what the annual sub discount is, but even $90 isnt so much money anymore
I can see how you feel, but think of it as supporting a few friends who are already far too generous—artist types tend to overpromise and realize later they need to eat
-
@R-Fey-Realme Oh, it is not really the money that hurts me. I'm doing fine financially and everything.
What hurts me is that I it feels like being lied to. I can't trust the promises they make anymore. It hurts that is IS all about money and not about wanting us to improve.
If they never ever had said anything about giving it for free to the annual subscribers, everything would be fine for me.
But now it would be nice to hear their reasons from their mouths, so I don't feel like they broke a promise anymore. I looked up to them as being great people, in any regards, not only art. And now there is the shadow of "they aren't as trustworthy as it seemed".
Honesty is one of my highest values. That's why I needed to post my dissapointment and hope to feel not dissapointed anymore if Lee gives an answer. If they discussed their change of minds and explained it in any podcast episode, please tell me in which. I didn't listen to all episodes of 2023 so far.

@Lee-White Did I miss the email or has it not been sent yet? Nevermind I saw they’re adding stuff and will update next week.
-
@MimiHecher I don’t think they ever said the whole thing would be free. Just the checklist.
-
@kayleenartlover oh, it would be a relief if I just had misunderstood it all!
-
@MimiHecher Hi Mimi, I'm so sorry if you misunderstood about the book vs the checklist. How to fix your art started off as just the checklist and that is what we wanted to give to our annual subscribers. The 200+ page book was a MASSIVE effort which we added along the way and we just can't give it away for free because of the cost involved in making it. We are, however, giving a good discount to annual subscribers and people who signed up early on the mailing list.
Hope that helps clarify it. It was such a huge project and sort of grew and grew as we were building it because we wanted it to be so good. We are very proud of it now and hope you guys like it as much as we do! : )
In terms of what we say vs what we do, we try to stay on top of everything, but sometimes we are later than we want to be when we deliver things. We are all working artists and have a lot of things going on at once. But i can assure you, nothing we have ever done is "for the money". Most of the things we do for svs we do for free and the only reason we do it is to help you guys out. We have done almost 186 episodes of the podcast and have not made a cent from it. In fact, it costs us a lot to have the team we do and we take a loss on every episode in order to pay our team. We ran all the critique arenas totally free, and now we do the monthly how to fix your art sessions for free too. Those are all a considerable amount of time we spend prepping for those, filming, and then editing, etc. And then we run this forum too. All this is done at a loss for us, which we are happy to do for our art community. But when we make something new, we have to charge for it otherwise we would be out of business pretty quick.

@Lee-White Thank you for taking your time to clarify it for me!
I'm really glad and relieved that I just misunderstood!Sorry for ever doubting your goodwill and altruism!

i'm looking for the checklist, and i cannot find it. I'm also looking for Jakes planner and i'm not sure where people have found that too. Can anyone guide me on both of those?
-
@AngelinaKizz It should’ve been in an email. Have you checked in the search bar of your emails?
-
@kayleenartlover oh thankyou, I found it!
-
@kayleenartlover I can't find it either. do you remember what the title of the email was?
-
@Lee-White I am thankful for what you guys do with the podcast, and my way to give back is every month I support 1 or 2 digital comics on kickstarter to support all our creator community.
As soon as I have success with my work I will be getting the how to fix your art book but as Im working on a novel my first goal is the self publishing pro (as I keep working on improving my art)
