Hi! I'm wondering if anyone knows good resources for learning about how to market and promote self-published books. I've heard some interesting tidbits on the Three Point Perspective podcast, and Will Terry has a series on youtube that's full of great info about how he self-published.

I'm looking for very beginner information though. In my own case, the author I'm working with doesn't have an email list. He's working on making a website. He has what seems like a pretty generous budget for paying for a marketing expert or courses to teach him how to promote his book. But I'm wary of him spending unnecessary money on people just trying to take advantage of novices like him (and myself). I know there is a lot of great info out there on youtube, for example. Does anyone have recommendations of places to learn about promoting a book, free or paid, that you have found valuable?

      Thank you so much!

And a bonus question - He's also considering trying to find a small publisher to publish the book (which is completely finished) instead of self-publishing in hopes that a publisher could help him promote the book. This seems like a bit of a red flag to me since I know most small publishers don't really do much to market the books they publish and take money to do the things a self-publisher could easily do themselves. But maybe I'm wrong? Any advice?

Thanks again in advance... I appreciate any feedback, big or small. 🙏🏼

@KathrynAdebayo I'm not sure about resources, but about your last paragraph here's a couple of things. Only vanity publishers take money for publishing. With a real publisher, they should be the one paying the author not the other way around.
