Value

Once you have done your value painting in photoshop, and you start painting, what is the easiest way to determine the same value in a color. I am sure there is a trick I just don't know it-Thanks!

The analogue way is to squint your eyes and it makes it easier to see the tones.
If you're working in photoshop, put a new layer on top of the artwork and fill it with black, then set the layer to "Colour" - you'll now have a greyscale image of your work and you can see which tones are working and which need tweaking. Switch the black layer on and off as you work to keep on top of your tones.

Along the lines of what @Nanette said you can also add an adjustment hue/saturation layer above all your layers and drop the saturation down all the way. (that is what i do). I have seen some people add a color layer and color right on to of the values. I believe that is how Will does it.

@Nanette Thank you so much I will give it a try

@Chip-Valecek Thank you Chip. Can you recall if Will demonstrates this in a video ? I can't recall

@lmrush he does talk about in his 10 steps to digital painting and he does it again in a different course which i forget but he works on painting the kid with the scary trees in the background.
