The Tuning Fork of Doom
-
Hello again - thank you all for the feedback! - really helpful - i was hoping to keep Lucy's tool a mystery but i was getting the feeling and the feedback that it was a bit too static - wondering if it is possible to ignore the color i used in the new quick sketch of Lucy and help me decide which composition to go with -

I personally like keeping the tool a mystery, but if you need to have one, the tuning fork of doom is awesome!

@Lynn-Larson Thank you Lynn - the more i look at it the more i think i will go with the Tuning Fork of Doom thanks for your feedback!

@Kevin-Longueil It's looking great so far! I had a couple of thoughts and I hope you don't mind but I did a quick paintover. The main thing I noticed was that you have so much action/interesting stuff going on in the top half of the picture...the robots, Lucy's face, the glowing tuning fork...all jostling for space up there.. then there's a huge spot of floor and wall that feels a little under-used. So I had a play around with the elements in your picture and came up with this idea (just an idea of course!)..main thing was I made the window bigger to give your big robot more breathing room and easier to showcase his tyre-chomping skills! ..then I flipped the smaller robot and put in the doorway to help bounce the viewer's eye back into the picture the other way.
The cat/doorway perspective will need a little finessing if you decide to do any of this, it's wonky here but anyway I figured it was enough to give you a flavour of what I mean. I'd just love to see a little more of these robots..and I think the extra space would really help you to have fun with the lighting. Anyway your drawing is great, beautifully detailed and interesting, and this piece is going to be very atmospheric I'm sure! Will look forward to seeing where you take it next

@Dulcie What do you do when some ones paint over is way better than your own painting? Really looks great Dulcie! - its funny I was really trying to find ways of increasing Lucy's scale so her expression would read better - that's why I compressed the environment - but I think the image does look better the way you have painted it - It is too crowded in my version - I will definitely try increasing the scale of the first robot and add a bit of headroom - all of your ideas are great - I may not incorporate them all but please know that I really appreciate the time you took to do this!

@Kevin-Longueil I have been all over the map with this... so many lessons learned - i did do a bunch of thumbnails but really it boiled down to trying to make a composition fit around a face that i had drawn of Lucy looking confident - it limited the pose which limited the composition - i will sure try not to do that again - anyways this is a work in progress still - need to get values worked out and the lighting...and the color... not sure about the robot pulling the wheel of the car.. yikes running out of time - anyways just an update really - i hope everyone is doing well with there submissions! - thanks again for the feedback

I think the composition is working so much better You can clearly see Lucy but it doesn't inhibit all the action going on outside and you get a clear sense of the robots marching through the street - I like that you can see the rooftops/street etc, gives more depth. The inside looks great too (love the detail!) with the perspective, the window over the door, and the cat in the corner. Keep going! It's going to be a great piece

@Dulcie Thank you Dulcie! - Your paint over really made me rethink my image and got me to let go of some things I thought I really wanted to hold on to and make some much needed changes - thanks too for the positive feedback - we're in the home stretch!
