Nice image! The angle makes makes this look dynamic and fun! Only thing I'd say for the story line, is the second fish in the tank makes me wonder if they are leaving that him, and the story is more about Willy. Just a thought.

          Can't wait to see more!

@bharris I see your point, thanks. I'm hoping that Willie's color will let us know which fish he is and which is his rescuer.

Hey Nice work, I love the composition. It's super easy to read and visually works well. I especially like all your little story elements scattered throughout! Great job.

Back to the drawing board for me on this one. Love the illustration that won though. Great work everyone.

@Rebecca-Hirsch I don't think you failed at all. I really liked your piece.

@Chip-Valecek It's a fail because I blew the concept, but it's okay - I learned from it. It was a valuable critique. Thanks though!

I loved your piece too @Rebecca-Hirsch - and it wouldn't have made the Honourable Mentions if it wasn't a good piece overall. So you should feel proud of doing that, even though of course you want to improve next time (or "fail better") which is a good thing too.

For what it's worth I've always seen your pieces as really strong on concept - clear, fun, interesting, they make me smile! I've just caught up with the critique (I couldn't face the 4am start this month!) and it sounded like they were just suggesting ways to make it punchier/even stronger.

@Dulcie Thanks, I think they had some great comments. I am disappointed with myself that I strayed away from the concept and didn't realize it until the critique - so I am very grateful I got feedback from them. It was a silly miss on my part and I would like to reimagine this piece to do it better. Thank you for the support, though. Sometimes I get concerned about my style of drawing - I don't know if it fits the style of what art directors are looking for these days.

@Rebecca-Hirsch Just thought i would share this with you - my daughter Lucie is 5 years old - she and her brother Finn who is 10 are both great at giving me instant and accurate feedback and often some strangely good advice - i was scrolling through all of the3rd Thursday entries on Chip's website (thanks again Chip!) and my daughter was silently taking them all in until she saw your painting - she lit up and said " I Love that one!" - she is a very tough critic so i thought i should let you know 🙂

@Kevin-Longueil Hey that's awesome! Thank you! I still like the piece and will keep it, but I would like to retry to see if I can hit the concept better. They were right when they said my Willie doesn't look like he needs rescuing - the tank does look like a comfortable environment. I don't mind making the mistake as long as I can learn from it. But how great that your kids liked it.
