Hi everyone, I wasn't sure about opening up a facebook page, but I recently did open one. I have some questions:

      • I have heard that facebook blocks your page from reaching audiences till you pay them. Is it true? if so, do most of the artists pay fb to boost their pages? What has been your experience?
      • Any tips on how to reach people or general rules of thumbs?

      Here is my page
And while I'm at it, I'll just share my recent work.0_1473186624279_pretty.jpg

Any help would be much appreciated 🙂

They don't block if you don't pay. There is an algorithm they use which your posts may not show up to others that like your page. The activity you do with the page the more it will show up for people. The more people that like a post , it will tend to carry weight and show up for others. What I do and see others do is post from your page and then share that post from your personal page. That way it will be seen and clicked by others on your friends list and then that might lead to their friends seeing it.

You could pay to boost a post, and then it becomes a sponsored post and will show up on peoples news feeds more often.

        Hope this helps.

@Chip-Valecek Thanks a lot for the comment! I'm a bit confused here, so I post the image on my fb page and then share that post on my wall?

@Nazuba Yes that way your post from your art page will be seen by everyone on your personal page. It will hopefully bring in more likes to your page. Also when a post has more activity on it, it will be seen by more people. I have had posts that only 20 people see, then i have had some where over 300 people see it. Facebook can be a pain in the ass that way.

I hate the Facebook business page and how it handles everything. Like if I respond to something on facebook it seems to only let me respond with my personal account and not my business account and try to design a banner for your business account site. It shows up different on every device and even on my wife's computer. Sometimes the avatar is in front of the banner sometimes it's not. I'm not a fan at all. Sorry for high jacking your thread Nazuba. You have very nice work by the way;)

@evilrobot No, thank you for the comment! I personally don't like fb for similar reasons, but have seen people reach a lot of audience through it. What could be other ways of dealing with stuff like this?
I am also starting to think that artists should have just a personal account on fb where they maintain close contacts with other artists, e.g If you, I and @Chip-Valecek became friends (which we have yay!) and interacted with each other. Unless you're craaaaazy popular like Loish or Pascalcampion 😕

I am following Will Terry´s advice and using my private FB account only. He strongly discourages to use a business FB account in one of his videos (I do not have the link handy, but you may find it on his channel), for mainly two reasons: simplifying one´s life by handling only one account is one. The other he mentions is that both audiences and art directors are interested in you as a person too, not only in your work, and he thinks there is value in mixing the personal and professional.
I have no problem with the mix of art and private life (especially because I do not post much of my private life on FB to start with) and I very much welcome one channel less to take care of.

@smceccarelli I am actually starting to think that too. I might as well delete the page, since my fb page is mostly about what I do all day, which is draw.
                      Thanks for your comment!
