As I am watching the portfolio class, I am reminded of how much I need help in puting together the design for book covers. Some of the questions I have are:

      • How do you not spoil the story, yet give enough information for them to understand what it could be about.

      • Is there a certain aspect of the plot that should be emphasized on the cover, yet be a completely different perspective on the scene.

      • How to choose/design text.

Any more ideas on this subject would be great. It is something I think would make a phenominal class topic, or even a nice convo here.

Hi I would find a class on this really interesting too, particularly a bit on text.
Have you seen the Third Thursday with the Edgar Allen Poe brief? There are some good thoughts on cover designs there.

I would love that too. I would love to do middle-grade book covers one day
A class on the subject would be helpful for a lot of us

Yes! THIS! I haven't seen much detail, only references to book covers, in other SVS classes. I turned down a client who requested I do a book cover because I didn't think I could handle it, but book covers sound like interesting jobs and I'd like to know more so that next time I can say confidently "Yes!" Great topic idea.

Hey guys, funny you should post about this. I'm talking to a designer who has done over 100 award winning book covers right now. I'm trying to get them to teach a class for us and it's looking very likely. I'll keep you updated! : )
