This class is incredible. Seriously. I have an art degree and learned more in this course than in four years of undergrad level instruction. Take it if you can, you will absolutely not regret it.

@Spencer-Hale I agree with everything Lynn said, I just used printer paper myself which worked fine for me. We did a lot of toning in the class I used prismacolor markers different percent's 20% 50% 70% etc., YOU ARE GONNA LOVE IT-IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. I am so so sad it is almost over!

I agree with @Rich-Green, @kimchizerbe, @Lynn-Larson, and @lmrush. This class is amazing. It focuses less on how to draw (which is very important and SVS has a ton of amazing classes that teach this) and focuses more on how to create what to draw...which is where I always got (notice the past tense) stuck. @Spencer-Hale - I started with gray markers and discovered I was lousy at them. So I ended up just using pencil on copy paper and digital. The first few assignments really allowed me to explore different methods so I could find the one that worked for me. And now I have some gray markers for my kids to use ;).****

Should I have gotten an email or something before the start of class? I heard Mr White was going to send me something but I haven't seen anything in my inbox :0

Sounds like a great class. I'm curious though will I still be able to watch recordings after it's over? Because I don't have $450 right now, but I'd love to at least challenge myself if I can't join live.

I think I am good to go, I would expect to get an email soon, or at least the class link will be active sometime tomorrow.

@Nazuba I am in the same boat with you. I just recently signed up. I am super excited for the first class starting tomorrow! Some others who just finished the previous class posted a few tips in this thread. They all sound like they really had a great time.

@Spencer-Hale Hi Classmate! I actually enrolled couple of days ago and Aron Terry (I think he handles the technical side of this site) and said Lee will get in touch. I'm not really worried much about not getting the email yet though lol.

@Ben-Migliore This class is only available as the paid class. The reason is that much of the content is a back and forth between the students and the instructors.

I just finished this course. I can't say enough about David and Lee. They are great, I have a four year art degree in studio drawing. I took some illustration courses and some graphic design courses and it was very much the old here is your assignment now go be awesome type of mind set. David and Lee have great demos and real life examples of illustration day to day. The ideation techniques have given me a solid starting point to my process. I did pick up much more concrete techniques in this class then I can remember from almost every class I took in college. I can't wait for illustration 2 sign me up!

                                ~Cheers, Kelly Lane~

@K.-W. We will be running this probably three times a year. It's the basic starting point for illustration so it needs to be a foundation type course. I think it will run again in the fall.

@Lee-White Oh excellent, thank you! If it does run in fall, I will join. 😃 Was tempted to sign up now, but have a cross-country move and spotty WiFi in my very near future, so it might be better to hold off until after the chaos.

@Lee-White I have a quick question for the class. I noticed there is still once place left (I started debating if I was going to take it or not when there was 9 left!). I am finishing a Children's book right now and I have another one to start and finish with a tight deadline. I was wondering if the assignment for the class are on specific subjects or if I could use the assignments to work on illustrations/ideas generation for my next book.

                                        Thanks!

@NoWayMe Rich is right, we focus on a very specific way of going through the illustration process so we needed to control the content for this class. In the illustration 2 class we are possibly going to open it up to different approaches and projects. That level of instruction is really geared for the final class in the series which will be the portfolio class.

That said, I think this class will speed you up in your overall process (hopefully Rich will agree with me). We go through each stage of image building with a focus on getting the best content possible. Using the techniques in the class, I can do up to 2 finished paintings a day now. When doing children's books, this has been a game changer as I can now take on more projects so I get paid more frequently.

The class does require time though, and you need to weigh how much you have. I'd say between 4-8 hours per week would be sufficient. You seems experienced in the art making process, so it might be faster for you.
