A Kaiju for Kaijune
-
@Clawson had an idea for a drawing challenge in June to draw a Kaiju every day for the month. I noticed a few other artists on Instagram heading up the challenge as well.
It's a fun idea, becasue giant monsters offer so many creative design opportunities. I thought I'd do one.
Here's my initial sketch (in photoshop)
Here's my final pencil under drawing (also in photoshop)
and here's my inked and watercolored final:
If you've got one, post it here!
-
@Jake-Parker Ahh I absolutely love it! That is such a cool creative piece! Looks fantastic
-
Here's my attempt. I was having trouble with the colors, but also didn't want to spend too much time on it. Still it was really fun, kaijus are awesome!

Cool. My son is great at monsters....wish I could get him on here but he's not interested in being an illustrator, he's a game maker wannabe I am not so good at monsters but, I guess I could try one. maybe I will do it for tomorrow's watercolor challenge day 29/30! I'm almost done!

Here's another one I did today.

@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen Do one! It would be great to see what you'd come up with.
-
Wow, cool stuff! @Jake-Parker Love that tongue in the first one!
Here's mine. This is the Building-Kisser Kaiju, or, as he's known in some regions- the Mistletoe Monster.
-
Really rough color and sketch. Lots to figure out, I almost never create monsters/creatures and it shows so this is a nice challenge. The proportions are wonky and overall stumpy. When I look at @Jake-Parker's Kaiju I can instantly feel the weight and mass of the creature. Not easy to pull off.
I went with a Kaiju Drooling Baby aka a Kaijuby?
-
What the heck is a Kaiju? I think I ordered that at the Chinese restaurant last night.
-
@Lee-White I had to look it up. I thought it had to do with sneezing!
-
@Lee-White Must be that new place over on Main with the monster-sized meals.
-
I have another one! I don't think I'll be able to do one each day, but its just a fun idea anyways!
-
@Jake-Parker I'll try one tomorrow Thanks!

While I don't have much time to take challenges these days, my comic strip, Mutant Nina, often features kaiju-inspired monsters. Here's a few examples:
And also these monsters I designed for my Strange Friends comic. They're not giant-sized, but they're also inspired by japanese monsters:
-
@Lee-White I thought I was the only one who had never heard of it,I looked it up but must have spelt it wrong I got lots of pics of a asian guy.
-
Another rough, I may try a smaller bow, plus need to work out the people and the Kaiju baby's stance, too.
-
I did a monster from a 5 year old friend's description He likes cowboy boots.
-
@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen I'm digging the suspenders!
-
@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen THat turned out great!
-
@Jake-Parker Thank you. It was super fun. I have a whole bunch more to do since I got a long list of kid's descriptions today My 3 1/2 year old grandson wants a monster with 10 bodies, ten legs, three big green eyes and monster claws Plus I have 7 more. Might not do them all this month though
