@Lee-White Okay. I actually played around a bit today with an idea. BTW, I have a question. I am going to redraw my current book dummy better. For one thing I am going to put all my spreads onto one sheet instead of on two! Also, I am sure that I can improve on my drawings. I know it will never be perfect and I kind of need to finish it before I get so sick of it it completely loses any joy that might come from painting it! Are there people who will just look at a dummy once it is set (I am self-publishing) and give me feedback? I know you are going to be doing those things where you go over portfolio's and help with selling and all that-I can't remember what it was called but, I was thinking it would be nice to have someone at least just look at my dummy and give me some professional feedback on the layout and composition, etc. before I start painting. I really want to finish this book but I want it to look as good as my ability allows at this point in my quest to improve Thanks!

I'm not entering of course, but I thought I'd post this here since it's a treehouse. I taught digital matte painting for animation for a number of years. This was one of my demos in class where I started with a background photo and painted onto it. Took about 45 min-1 hour.

Not sure I totally understand the question, so let me know if I didn't answer it right, but I'll give it a try So, I do send out emails about the contest, however we just started the contest in May, so it's only been two emails so far I sent one about Mermaids in May, and I just sent one yesterday about the Treehouses. I see your email address on our email list, so maybe they are not getting through? Could they be getting sent to your junk mail? I just had some troubles with my Outlook account all the sudden sending all kinds of legit emails to my junk mail, so I'm trying to go through and add the emails I want to see to my contacts list. Maybe try adding lisa@svslearn.com to your contacts list?

I'll also be updating about the contests in the News section of the SVS website, and will hopefully soon be adding a schedule on the website. Are there other ways you would want to be notified? Let me know!

@Lee-White that looks great - I'm assuming that this is a photobash image. That is something I would love to see on SVS. I think there are a lot on http://fengzhudesign.com/ but I haven't spent time with them yet. Any other areas of guidance for such?

I saw the mermaid prompt and was too busy to think. Then, I saw this and thought it was due early June. I will definitely do something for June since i have a perfect image I wanted to get to. I love this picture!!!! I really love how you use values. It is always so dynamic. One of the things I have been trying to grasp is how to know when darker values are in the foreground and when they are are more so in the background.

@Eric-Castleman DISQUALIFIED! ...I often look at a lot of reference before I begin a piece...this one happened because in looking for reference for another project I have to do this week - I saw a photo similar to this and the idea popped in - "put a treehouse in there" ...so the reference set the mood with dark and light values...
