I'm really starting to like this whole vector thing in Illustrator. I think it's just a matter of getting use to what you can and can't do, in comparison to Photoshop. I think I'm going to stick with this for a little bit. I might even tackle a Children's Book in this style. I know it's kind of commercial looking, but until I get a little more comfortable with working in 2D, I think this might be a good way for me to keep myself motivated.

wow nice little piece. You might like Manga Studio 5, as it has painting tools like Photoshop and vector tool like Illustrator, but they use the same tools, so there is very little change in your work flow. the best thing is it costs only £20.

I used to work in Illustrator, but since I've given myself a Cintiq, I love working in Photoshop more, even though my biggest client an educational publisher always wants me to work in vector. I really like the lighting effect you've given the cord-ring. Its a good thing that you can work in different styles, it helps to find a variety in assignments.Leontine

What a fun illustration! I'm glad Illustrator seems to be working well for you. Illustrator can do a whole lot. I feel like it is more versatile than photoshop, but that is probably just my perspective--I know more of what illustrator can do, so I feel like it can do more. It makes me happy to see more illustrator stuff being done around SVS, I was feeling a little lonely ;-).

@Steve-Young Thanks Steve. I had a friend of mine suggest Manga Studio as well. I'll have to check it out. I get my Adobe Suite through the college I work at, so I only pay $9.95/year for a CC subscription to the Creative Suite. Price isn't really an issue.

@Leontine-Gaasenbeek Thanks Leontine. Let's just say you wouldn't want to eat in the Rat's Galley. I wish I had a Cintiq, but for now the Wacom will have to do. I'm glad to hear that there are publishers out there that want the vector format.

@Sarah-LuAnn Thanks Sarah. I noticed in your work that you, like myself, use a lot of line art (inked line). Do you do that in Photoshop? Don't you find that inking is much cleaner and more forgiving in Illustrator?

@Craig-Babin Yes there are lots over here. I make vector-illustrations for animated presentations as well. I am sure wit this quality work you can find free lance jobs. Good luck!

I do my inked lines... with ink. Brush pen and real paper, scanned and then finished in Illustrator. Maybe one day I'll get a cintiq (or equivalent) and move to doing things all digital, but for now I like my hybrid process.
I have done some line art in illustrator--the brush tool and width tool both are very helpful for that. But as my process has developed I've been doing more traditional inking. It works and I like it.
