      Hello everybody,

I am finally saying hello after following the site for 2 years. For the past 14 years I have been teaching high school art. I absolutely love teaching. However, my major in college was Illustration. So after many years of letting other things take the lead, I am devoting as much energy at the end of the school day to my practice and pursuing illustration once again. I hope to document the process on my soon to go live website. I feel extremely lucky to have found such a supportive and passionate community. I wasn't able to meet the deadline for the Octopus Challenge. Here is where I am at currently. Still pretty early in the process and I am still learning so much. My goal was to post a finish and I will update you with one soon. Finished not perfect!

Which color do you think works on the tentacles? I'm leaning reddish. The working title so far is "Walter's Revenge".

I think the color of the tentacles will work best depending on the other colors in your scene and the feeling you want to evoke, as it stands I would say that the purple tentacles work well with the greenish background. If it were me I think I would focus a nice warm light on the house and cliff and give the tentacles a cool feel especially towards the bottom of the painting. You could get some really nice shapes with some cast shadows too. The composition is great, although I would reduce the size of the far tentacle due to perspective and sizing issues.

Look forward to seeing it finished. Shame you couldn't have time to finish it for this month's competition, but it's great to have you with us 😃
