A couple pencil sketches. I loved the class on stylized portraits and this is what I always fall back on when I have only a few minutes to study. I know I need to spend more time doing compositions and whole figures, but there’s something about a pencil portrait that just gets me. Pinterest supplies an endless selection of sweet references so this is what I do when I can’t get to my paints.️ -
Her expression pretty much captures my mood/energy level lately.

Sarah Vaughan who was arguably the greatest jazz singer of all time.
I’m definitely more comfortable drawing faces than figures, but I wanted to try with her. -
So sad about Dolores O’Riordan!

Here’s a couple recent sketches. I think I do straight on faces too much. Will would say they are too confrontational, I think, but to me they’re just so captivating. I can’t stop.

Profiles are hard! So is 3/4 view, but for some reason, I feel like I have to think things through so much more when drawing a person in profile. Anyway, here’s a portrait of Jessica Chastain.

Some newer things... I’ve been trying to use color on occasion in my sketches even though it scares me.

Feeling kind of ehhhhh about my illustrations lately. Pencil sketches are fun for me and relaxing most of the time. Illustration is hard. Trying to keep my chin up but getting really discouraged. I know it’s that artist brain. We probably all feel it. Anyway, here’s a recent sketch.
