      Hi,

I have a question and I would like to know what you think.

I personally like to work in different techniques, like watercolor, gouache, embroidery, digital and mixed media, But I don´t know if that could affect my portfolio. Because I was checking the portfolio of various illustrators and almost everyone has a solid portfolio in a single technique.

I don´t know If the clients or agencies prefer a porfolio that it is focused on some kind of technique or style and not something that is more varied.

What I've heard is that its fine to have different looks/media in your portfolio, but you need to show that you can be consistent. Generally this means that you have a separate, full portfolio for each style you want to work in. So if you want to do watercolor AND embroidery, thats fine, but have a full portfolio of watercolor images and a full portfolio of embroidery. Hope this makes sense/answers your question 🙂

Also to add on to the above comment: If you mix techniques or I call them mediums keep those consistent as well. For example I have an artist friend who paints in oil, charcoal, and embroidery combined on a single work. But if you wanted to combine watercolour and gouache and digital, stay consistent in that portfolio and that be right as well.

          🙂

Thanks @Sarah-LuAnn and @Heather-Boyd for their opinions. It helps me, because I was a little insecurity about my portfolio and work with different techniques.
