Hey guys,

The name is Nathan, I'm 32, Aussie, and getting back into drawing. I discovered this forum through the podcast. One of the best! Really enjoying it. Can't wait for more.

I use to draw heaps as a kid, but stopped for 10 years, studying computer science then pursuing a career and business in online marketing. Fast forward to about 1 year ago, I read The Artists Way on the recommendation of a friend. From there I've gotten obsessed with drawing again. Still very much a beginner, but started an Instagram a couple of months ago to share something that was once very private for me. (I think I surprised many people)

Anyways great to be here. See you around the forum

@concept welcome to the forums! No matter how many years I do something I always feel like a beginner still. Even with my day job as a web designer, been doing that for almost 18 years I still feel like a beginner when I learn new things.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm glad you have enjoyed my work so far (I need to post up more often haha). I'm drawing most days and make sure I improve at least one thing at the end of each session.

I don't have a 'goal' per se, like "I want to become a Disney animator". I'm usually a goal orientated person, often at the expense of the journey. So taking a step back and enjoying the journey has been reenergizing.

I'm at the point of just rediscovering, playing and pursuing specific aspects of art with a pent-up ferociousness (10 years not drawing has done that to me haha). I'm enjoying the human figure and expressions, which is what I've been practicing. My curiosity is taking me to bring in color, and thinking of a piece as a composition - so bringing composition ideas to my works is another step.

Who knows. But I'm loving the journey

Hey Laurie, thank you I totally understand the drawing envy. I get it all the time. I've learnt the only person to compare to is myself. So long as I'm better than I was last week, I'm happy

Thanks @ians Yeah, that seascape was fun. A step out of the comfort zone but I learned a lot and enjoyed it.

Hello! My story is similar to yours in the sense that I used to draw nonstop as a kid/teenager and then basically stopped for 10 years. But I've started up again in the past 2 years and I'm working hard at improving. It's never too late to pick up the pencil. Glad to hear I'm not alone in this (I see too many art-gods on instagram that are only like 18 and I feel like crying in a corner lol)
