Wow, so many great posts here!
I want to mention Michael Bedard. The sitting ducks series is awesome. 🙂

So many artists influence and encourage me. The two that spring to mind immediately are James Gurney and Terryl Witlach. I've followed their work since high school and both of them have encouraged and motivated me to improve over the years...hopefully a trend that continues! I also follow TONS of artists online via instagram, tumblr, deviatnart, etc...but it would take pages to list them all.

The first one is from Sam Nielson, the second is from Silly Beast Illustration (I forget the artists name at the moment).

I have been keeping up with Nathan Fowkes' postings on his blogs for several years. I don't think there is a better person out there to emulate when it relates to environments and lighting. James Gurney is another great. Here is a good example of Nathan's sketches he posts. He's been doing these daily in gouache for years.
