Dec. 3rd thursday sketch

@mattramsey
Thanks matt.
I was just working on one where I am "zoomed out" a bit more so you guys can tell me if it reads a bit better. But I will definitely do one with maybe only one gerbil and maybe a few. Thanks for the reply. I'll continue to post each version and I'd love to hear more from everyone! -

like the idea! and the movement it has in there. My concern is the cow and rabbit expression. Cow looks as if he is in pain and the rabbit does not have any emotion to me. I just wonder if that's intentional? Your hamster looks very excited haha.

Personally, I think the cow is great but I 100% agree that the rabbit is just kinda "there." I also think the pig should be worked on--he isn't quite at the level of polish the cow has and he should be.
I like the wider angle a lot better than the first image.

@Naroth-Kean
Yeah, the cow is supposed to look freaked out, the pig is also. The gerbil is supposed to be excited. I know it may be hard to tell at this point but the rabbit is a stuffed rabbit (teddy bear) which is why he doesn't have an expression. If I leave the cow in there I will have to make sure he doesn't look to be in pain. Thanks for the info -
Here are 4 quick versions of what the painting might look like with just the gerbil...
Let me know what you guys like or dislike or if you like the gerbil alone or should the other animals be kept as well.
Thanks! -
#3 or #4. #3 would be really fun but it will be hard(er) to "pull off". Unless you are not daunted by lighting, in which case go for it!
I would say the lights should probably travel back along the entire reins.
-
Love the Christmas lights on the ball! Very funny! Personally think you need more than one character pulling the sleigh. Possibly more gerbils or even other types of house hold pets and keeps a theme going.
-
I agree with @bharris there needs to be more then one animal. If you keep the cow in there, I was thinking if you change the way his eyes look it would feel more in shock then in pain. With the eyelid down it makes him look like he is sick or in pain. I do like the gerbil though. Since he is in a ball like that it would be nice to see some breath/fog with maybe a smiley face drawn in it. Like when its really cold out and kids draw pictures on the windows of a car.
-
@Chip-Valecek
lol. I like the fog on the window smiling face idea. I'll definitely keep it in mind when I'm doing the final. I also think I am leaning towards all the animals being in the pic.... although I have swapped out the stuffed rabbit with a chicken :).
Working on the final sketch now.*oh and I'm taking the eyelid off the cow. Hopefully that helps the look of the cow.
Thanks -
So here is the final sketch
I know there will be differences in the final painting than the sketch, such as the christmas lights on the ball. I'm going to wait until I'm into the painting before I add them.
But if you guys have any last suggestions I'm open to hearing.
Thanks everyone.

@Kris-Knight love the egg drop lol. I would have all the animals looking toward the ball, right now they all seem to be looking in different directions.
-
The chicken is far better than the rabbit. The rabbit felt like it was in a different art style. I love the idea and the construction on the cow is amazing. I think the only thing letting it down now is the construction of the big. The anatomy doesn't seem right. It feels like it's got a broken neck and it's not attached, get that sorted and the piece will be stunning.

@Kris-Knight is the gerbil standing in the sphere? I thought he will be running
-
@Ace-Connell I will give the pig a redraw and post when done . thanks for the comments.
-
@JiÅ™Ã-Kůs haha... yeah, running would be fun. I think I'm gonna stick with him standing that way he can look excited like he is just enjoying the view.... but running would be a good way to go also.

Here is a new version of the PIG. Let me know guys
-
That pig is looads better! Love his expression
-
@Dulcie Thanks Glad you like.. It was definitely a good change.

@Kris-Knight with this pose of the pig, there should be some tension in the rope, this way it looks unnatural. it seems like it is floating ignoring the weight of the pig, like in vaccuum. Yet they should drag the sledge.
