Cintiq Pro 16- Cable Problem- HELP!
-
Hi guys! So I’ve resolved my initial cintiq problem. I asked a refund for the 2nd hand 27qhd cintiq and I used the money to buy a brand new wacom cintiq pro 16. Now I’m facing a problem with the cables. In order to get the cintiq running, I need to connect the cintiq using the usb 3 or the mini display port. Problem is my computer does not have any of these ports. I’ve researched that this can be solved using an adapter but that I can’t use 4k resolution. What’s your take on this? Any suggestions? Any products that worked great for you? Thank you so much!

@Nyrryl-Cadiz I have a Cintiq Pro 16 and a 2015 MacBook Pro with the old USB ports, so I have the adapter as well (I even had to replace it recently because it kept disconnecting). And in fact, I thought I had resolved the problem and now had full resolution but just realized when looking to answer your question that I don't anymore (!), so let me look into this and if I can restore it I'll let you know.
I will say that the Cintiq Pro 16 is a useful device regardless, and for 300 dpi purposes one doesn't seem to lose anything. But when I bought my Cintiq, the larger sizes weren't available, and now if I had to get one I might go for a larger size, because I work fairly frequently on a split screen.

@LauraA Thanks Laura! This is very helpful. I bought the pro 16 because it was the only model available in the store too but I chose it mainly because I couldn’t afford any of the bigger models. I plan to stick with this device for another 5 years before upgrading. Lol
what adapter are you using? What brand? Artists I’ve seen online used mini displayport to usb adapters while others do away with the adapters and the mini displayport cable altogether. Instead they’re using a mini displayport- regular displayport cable to get that 4k resolution.

Here's the item number support sent to me:
ACK4280601
USB-C to USB-C 3.0 cable
USB-A to USB-A 3.0 cableMind you, I'm not getting 4K with this either! I think it requires a computer with a USB-C connection, and I'm holding onto my old computer for as long as I can.

@LauraA I saw this guy on youtube who uses a cable with a mini displayport on one end and a regular displayport on the other. It looks kinda like the cables used on 4k screens. He says he gets 4k. I don’t know if it works though. I’ll have to try it for myself

@LauraA I don’t know if this will be helpful to you as well but here’s the video. I’m not really sure if this works.
