First Look at my Entry for this Month. I am not really happy with her Pose but Anatomy is a thing i have to work, which isnt so much a big deal in the rather Cartoony stuff i prefer to do but at the end its something i have to dive into in the future...and Hands...i need to learn how to make good looking hands...which is the reason she is not holding the Camera ๐Ÿ™‚

I dig it, and as a bit of a camera nerd I really dig the camera, looks like a film point and shoot. And you nailed the texture on the bottom half of the camera. I can feel that grip in my hand just looking at this.

Did you use a reference for the pose? It's not all that bad, but you're definitely hiding her hands. When it comes to hands and anatomy in general, you're always going to feel like you need to get better no matter what level you're at. I would say waste no time, start working on them, because you have a great look to your work here and hands can bring a vast amount of character and expression to your drawings. But I get it, I tend to shy away from them unless I have to do them, but man is it worth it to at least get to a point where you're not hiding them. ๐Ÿ™‚

i used a leica as a ref with some little changes here and there from my side but overall it should be recognizable when you put em next to each other.

yes i did used a ref. its a picture from the haunting of hill house series which i picked since it works with the idea i have in mind. about the hands, i know but since the ref itself didnt had em in and i am not so good with em i decided that for at least this piece i can go the easy route but i am aware of the issue which affects the cartoony stuff too and i am working on it from time to time.

ps - the fairy hands will be shown but they are misformed so i can hide my lack of anatomy knowledge with it ๐Ÿฆ†

I'm kind of curious though, was part of the prompt to have someone trying to photography this Ink Fairy? I thought I saw the original prompt thread and I don't recall it saying anything about taking a photo, yet mostly I've seen people using that as part of their image.

Its Part of the Prompt so we will see a lot of Cameras and Fairys ๐Ÿ™‚

Awesome, yeah, the camera looks great.

Oh nice, okay well I didn't think the figure looked bad at all, there is a natural look to the pose, but it did look like you were hiding the hands away, though seeing there is a reference photo it makes even more sense.

I just went back to that thread and looked it up, I somehow missed that whole line about taking the photo. Haha.

            Cheers.

Yeah, there's some hands, and not bad at all. I like how your line work for him is lumpy and not so perfect, really works.

thats the thing with "monster". you can just make it look inacurate and it still works somehow. these hands with that anatomy on the girl...not so much ๐Ÿ˜œ

                  current version, still wip

@Molambo That's so true and one of the reasons I enjoy drawing creatures as well. Our mind isn't as tuned in to their features as they are to a humans so something can be quite off and look completely fine. Haha.

This is turning out great, I like the little ink skull, and I'm curious to see how you do the wings. Her expression works more and more as the Ink Fairy Creature comes to life behind her.

the wings are something i experiment with right now. no clue which way to go. i can either paint little vains in, do it black and paint over with white or do some other kind of texture work? i have to look up some inker and what they tend to do when its on a black background.

I like the idea youโ€™re going with. The monster design is interesting and he looks a bit creepy which looks like what youโ€™re going for. The girlโ€™s hair is rendered well. The angles of the arms help to make the image more dynamic too.

One thing that stood out to me was the shape of the girlโ€™s arms. Her face is smooth but her arms look about 40 years too old. I think some smoother lines on her arms would help to keep them consistent with her age and possibly separate her more from the monster behind her. Her left arm looks a bit skinnier than her right one too. Maybe itโ€™s the angle. I know humans are difficult but the struggle is worth it. I hope these suggestions are helpful. I look forward to seeing the finished result.

@kimmypie hmmm, its not supposed to be skin but clothed instead like in the ref image. or do you mean the shape overall? other arm looks skinnier because its supposed to be behind her like in the image where she uses it to stand up. the whole anatomy is wonkey even with ref, should have spend more time on the sketch phase instead to rush to ink.

@Molambo I went back to the reference image. I didnโ€™t see it the first time I posted. I only looked at your image.
I see the foreshortening there in the photo, but its not reading that way in yours. If you put some negative space making the waist smaller it may help. Her shoulders are much wider than her waist because they are closer to the camera. That lean forward is tough to do.

I think if you draw in some of the fabric folds especially on the waist it would show the pinching thatโ€™s happening there which will help to lean her forward.

                            I hope these suggestions help.

it does. i try now to bring some more form into it with shading and see how that goes. in term of changing form via repaint, the only option i have right now is the left side with the hair where i can change the arm a bit and her mid/upper body part by enlargen the hair space or even add some infront of her and not just behind. depending on how that all goes i still consider a rework of her by drawing her again on a new paper but i first try to finish this piece.

ps: wings are not done but i go the white gel pen way and paint some strains into it.

@Blitz55 yeah, the will be the final, did i fuck it up or not part of the image.
tackling it right now but its still wip. going to darken the outlines down much more and adding more white "shine" to em.

                                        current wip version

i think i should be able to finish it till friday, i dont want to overwork the thin paper so i always let it rest to really dry up before i go and add washes
