Hi folks, I'm a brand new member/subscriber. I'm really enjoying the extraordinary variety of courses on here! I also have a subscription to Schoolism, but I find it much harder to view the videos on their site. The software they use is not as simple as the embedded Vimeo videos here.
Anyway, here's a piece I did today:
I'm generally happy with the overall lighting statement, but I think I could have made the composition more interesting and dynamic. There isn't enough movement or give-and-take between the characters as it is. Anyway, happy to meet all you guys!

Welcome Zoe, I also tried schoolism and took a few courses. But when it came down to the subscription plan SVS was a better deal. Also I enjoy the community around here. Great people to talk to and share work with!

There isn't enough movement or give-and-take between the characters as it is.
How about making the weight of the ice tip him up and forward, diagonally back pointing towards the upper left corner but with his face closer towards the skier, as if to say help me. And instead of the skier just arriving on the scene, maybe having him taking an iPhone pic, or a selfie with a selfie stick, so then he would be facing with his back towards the head of the yeti.
Also you could have the ice water splashing out around the sides of the cracks...

The Yeti and skier are both great! But I agree there isn't much interaction on the part of the skier. Unless the Yeti fell from the sky, it wouldn't be that close to the skier without the skier noticing. I would start with a story in mind. Who is the skier? Why didn't he notice the Yeti? Why is the Yeti upset? You don't have to write the story, just think of how the two characters came to meet. Then draw a few thumbnails to illustrate the possible story lines. And go from there. Hope that helps!

That's an interesting idea! I think in the future one thing I have to work on is assessing and evaluating the character pose before moving on to the lighting/value work. If I had stopped midway through the drawing I think I would have done something more creative.

Hi @Chip-Valecek -- did you know that they have introduced a subscription plan at Schoolism also? You can only view 1 class at a time, though. You can switch for $1 as many times as you want. It's somewhat inconvenient because you have to wait a few days for them to process your switch. I prefer this site because you can see all the classes and jump around between them.
@Joy-Heyer -- yeah, I think I would approach this differently if I had an idea in mind to start. This was a case of drawing without having a plan.
