DECEMBER CONTEST: YETI
-
HOT off the presses!! The prompt for December is here!
Hope you a ready for a challenge, because this one is a doozy
It comes to us from @Jake-Parker :
"This month we are doing a character design challenge!
Your assignment is to design the fabled monster of the Himalayas, the YETI.
You've seen them show up everywhere from theme park rides (Disneyland's Matterhorn) to cable TV specials, and most recently a rash of animated films (Abominable, Smallfoot, and Missing Link).
What we want from you is a character design sheet with your own take on the Yeti.
Every entry must have 5 color drawings on ONE page:
1 neutral pose front, 3/4 view
1 neutral post back, 3/4 view
1 walking or running pose
1 sitting pose (ground or chair)
1 close up of faceWhat can you do to make the character stand out from ALL the other designs you've seen? Think of the character's background, personality, wants, and needs. All of these attributes will play an important role in the creativity of your design.
Allright, good luck!"

@carlianne right up your alley
-
@carlianne I was thinking of you when I read this one.
-
Omg I'm so excited to see everyone's character designs! This will be a fun prompt and a nice change from the norm.
-
@xin-li @chrisaakins It's great because doing a turn around and poses of my yeti character has been on my list of "to do" for the last few months.
-
Eeeeeeeeee! I canβt wait to get started! excellent prompt @Jake-Parker !
-
I'm definitely going to jump into this one. What a fun project!
-
@carlianne looking forward to seeing your Yeti character again. It is adorable
-
Sounds fun! I'm not a SVS subscriber, but could I make an entry and post it here just for fun? Or would it be better if it was its own topic?
Good luck to all who enter!
-
@Jonathan-Malski I believe you can enter but only active svs members will be selected for the finals.
-
when's this due?
-
The contests are always due on the last day in the month
-
Sounds like a great prompt idea! can't wait to see everyone's designs
-
I haven't been able to participate for a while, but I really like this one! There are so many Yeti designs out there, designing an original one is going to be tricky. I'm excited to give it a shot.
-
@powsupermum That's what I figured; I was just wondering if I should post it here or make it it's own topic, as I don't want to confuse the judges or anyone else
-
This post is deleted! -
Two questions, not sure who to ask so I'll pop them here in case anyone else is wondering or has answers:
How much 'spunk' can we give to our characters? I'm trying to figure out if we're just going for a basic template, straight-faced, sorting out the sinew and mechanics type of character, or if we can infuse a bunch of attitude and personality?
And can they have props if it's an important part of who they are? (Like, if it's a wild west type Yeti, can she be walking while holding a gun and wearing a cowboy hat? Or if it's a princess type Yeti, Could they be sitting and drinking tea with a teacup?)Thanks!

@Cayleen the spunkier the better. Add props too if it will help. Do what you need to do to sell this character as unique and engaging.
And if you happened to watch today's critique arena cuteness wins...
