Hello and thank you for the opportunity of being part of the SVS community. I’ve being painting semi-professionally since 2002 or so. I’ve built a solid reputation as a Latin American painter selling hundreds of painting and prints over the world since. I’ve also illustrated multiple projects: among those a text book for National Geographic Learning and on November 2012 I illustrated the children’s book “The Poet Upstairs” for Arte Público Press. The book obtained a couple of accolades: JLG Honor Award and a Skipping Stones Honor Award. Now, you may be asking yourself “Then, what the heck are you doing here!”. Mainly because as I’ve told other people a master is only an artist who never stops being a student and secondly because I truly believe that the real artists of the world are the comic books and children’s book illustrators… bar none. If you’re poor and think you can’t afford quality art, you’re wrong. Purchase a good illustrated children’s book and you’ve got yourself over 12 hard labored amazing master pieces dirt cheap! And you won’t have to stand on your head to understand them!
My goal is to continue drawing better, painting better and illustrate children’s book as a professional. I also want to manage digital tools (even though I’m profoundly in love with traditional media). My favorite illustrators of the past are Rockwell, Leyendecker, Robert McGinnis, Charley Harper, oh my so many! Contemporary: Shaun Tan, Raúl Colón, Rafael López… the list is endless.Keep on creating beautiful stuff!
