Need Help to find Agent or Rep!
-
Hi, Everyone!
My name is Frank Sandoval
I worked for a Mobile Game company for 9 years, but because of contract agreements, I can't show any game art that I worked on for that company.
I don't work there anymore.
I am interested in doing illustrations for Children's Books and Children's Graphic Novels.
Had to create new art and portfolio to show children's book illustrations
I was so happy to find a place like SVSLearn.com with @Jake-Parker, @Lee-White and @Will-Terry to learn more about how to make children's books, also Joined the SVSLearn forum, a very cool place to meet and talk to other artists.
This is the first time I post a New Topic, I really need an artist point of view.
I recently recovered from Covid-19 and very thankful to God that my family and I are healthy now.
I've been working in a very Stressful long hour none art-related Job, would be great to be able to work on children's books full time :).
I would really appreciate any kind of advice, or contact info, I don't know what to do next, who to show my work to.
Thank you!
May God bless you and your family! Here is my portfolio in case you are interested

Hi Frank!
Nice to meet you. I would recommend checking Anoosha Syed's video about portfolio and if you are very clear about what you want to do (children's books) I think it would be a good idea start gathering info about literary agencies.
About the website I think it's missing an ABOUT page where you can explain a little bit about you and show that you are a person behind the art also Anoosha explains this.Hope this helps to start building your new portfolio!

I really like your work! It has great colours and cute characters.
Maybe show more of a sequential art, if picture books are what you would like to do
-
Hi @franksandovalart, your art is incredible! I donโt think youโll have any issue finding an agent. Just start sending queries to your desired agencies and definitely follow directions exactly.
Wishing you the best and success!

@franksandovalart hi Frank!! I was in a similar boat a few years ago as I started in games and then our game never released and - well there goes showing any work I had done for the last few years.
Itโs funny because when I saw your art I thought it felt very reminiscent of game art as well, especially with how beautifully you render! My recommendation is to really focus your portfolio on story telling, put together 10 pieces that have a clear story and then use that to reach out to agents, attend SCBWI conferences (there is one about to happen you might be able to sign up, you have to submit 3 pieces by the 14th) as agents do look at portfolios there.
Your work is incredibly technically strong so Iโm sure once you get the portfolio focused down youโll find an agent easily

@carlianne Thank's for your recommendation to focus on storytelling, clear story for my work on my portfolio!
SCBWI conferences, I will definitely consider doing that
Thank you!

@franksandovalart Hi! I think everyone has made great points about your portfolio. I'm going to focus more on your site's layout.
Firstly, you don't have a tab that connects directly to your portfolio. I understand that your logo functions just that but at first viewing, I actually got lost when I left the portfolio page. Creating a clearly labelled tab would be very helpful to your viewers. If not addressed this might be the one thing that puts off a potential client.
Secondly, you don't have an 'About Me' page. I think someone has already mentioned this above. It will be very beneficial for you if you could share more about yourself to your potential clients. Tell your art education, your past experience, what you want to work in, and maybe some fun info about yourself.
i hope this was helpful.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz yes it was very helpful, thank you!!
-
@franksandovalart Your work is super fun! I'll chime in and recommend that you join SCBWI if you haven't already, and then attend the conferences and submit your portfolio. The winter conference is coming up next week. Good luck!

Wish you the best too!
