      Hey peeps!

I just wanted to share some of my excitement with you guys. The first 2 titles I worked on with my agency last year just got published πŸ™‚ Both of these were projects with approx 3 months timeline.

I just had a cover revel of my 3rd project (published by SourceBooks) which will be available in October!
      wordtraveler1.jpg

It's so exciting to see my art out there in the world (even though I haven't been able to get my copy yet).

All 3 projects were worked on in Procreate and finished up in Photoshop to make it print ready. In fact, I wasn't aware of how terribly the layer modes translate from Procreate to Photoshop so I really had a freak out session towards the end of my first book πŸ™ˆ

I'm truly grateful to @Will-Terry @Lee-White @Jake-Parker and @davidhohn for being wonderful teachers. And also the whole SVS team and community for making it what it is today. And even seeing the progress of artists on this forum feels so good! I think I hit the jackpot when I discovered SVS.. pretty much like finding the right thing at the right time.

I've also been feeling a little guilty that I haven't been active on the forum in the past few months but now you know why πŸ˜…

A big thanks to everyone on this forum for being so amazing!

Congratulations! These first projects are such learning curves -- but it's all time well spent. Looking forward to seeing what projects you work on next!

@Neha-Rawat Fantastic! Congrats! Would you share any tips for procreate users to start thinking about, if their work goes to print? I already know I don't backup work enough, I need to break that habit!

Congratulations! You are so productive! Are they all picture books with full-bleed illustrations?

I am also curious about whether you are going to hold events to promote the books, such as signing books and launching books? That would be exciting!

@Neha-Rawat Congratulations Neha!! Your works are beautiful 😻 Just wondering, when you worked with Procreate, did you work directly with Procreate’s CMYK mode or did you work in RGB first and then converted to CMYK on Photoshop?

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate it! πŸ™‚

@artbytra @Lynniesketches Oh yes backing up your work regularly is a must! Procreate does not create print ready files, so you'll need to export it to another program (like photoshop) where you can make it a CMYK file and do color corrections if required.

These are the steps I use, but I'm open to learning any new methods as well:

                                      1. In Procreate, create the canvas with required resolution in sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile
                                      2. Make sure not to use layer modes in your file, or if you really need to, flatten it by merging into another layer. Basically as long as your layers are in "Normal" mode, the conversion becomes the easiest.
                                      3. Export to PSD
                                      4. In Photoshop, create canvas with required resolution in CMYK
                                      5. Drag all the exported PSD layers to the new CMYK canvas
                                      6. Make any color tweaks or use adjustments layers if necessary.
I hope this works for you!

@idid Thanks! "The Storyteller of Ketu" is a full color chapter book, with a mix of half page and full page illustrations.
"Tippy Tippy Tree" is a picture book with all full bleed artwork.
And "Word Travelers" is also an early readers chapter book with black and white interior illustrations (mix of spots, full bleeds and spreads)

The publisher hasn't contacted me for any promotion event. I could be wrong, but I was of the understanding that this sort of promotion was mostly done by medium-big trade book publishers or projects with bigger budgets. Fyi - these were not royalty contracts so any sales of the book will not benefit me monetarily. Promotions does obviously help get your name around if you get invited to podcasts or your book gets included in a bookclub but I really don't know much of how to go about that.
