La Skellete Inn for the April contest
-
Working on April's contest by physically building stuff again. Was very happy to make it into the top 16, a first for me.
I'm making an inn that has a skull shaped room for you to sleep in.
I realize that the critiques I received were to maybe work a bit friendlier/cuter (and also to have made my lizard look like more of a traveller), but I'm hoping to use this stuff for my portfolio and I'm not really aiming at a very young audience.
I hope to put together a book of pictures using sculptures and sets that lays out a fantasy world but has no plot. Here's La Skellete Inn so far!

I really appreciate the photos you share of your process. Your art is unique (and obviously time demanding). As far as cuteness, that's just an observation that the judges are making. I doubt anyone would want you to go much further in the Direction of Cute.
-
@RachelArmington Thank you!
I like sharing this process because it's not as difficult as you might think. I'm using many techniques I've picked up off of various youtube how to's.
Yeah cute isn't what they were suggesting I do, just that it's what works best and most often -
Looks great so far! I'm a big fan of miniatures so I'm excited to see the building process. Do you have any favorite youtube channels or sources were you pick up new techniques or insperation?
-
@s1h0k for this, there's a guy called 'Black Magic Craft'. Great ideas for making little buildings for cheap.
Here's where it's at now. Going to add lots of stones to the skull part, as it will now be a skull shaped bricked partition.

Yay!!!! I love seeing these!!!!! Can't wait to see how this one progresses!
-
Some bricks, and then coated with black paint mod podge mixture
-
Put some more on, curing it in the sun. Tried to take a photo at an agle so it looks like a real house
Ha, not yet. -
Love it ! It does look like a real house
-
Some paint on this, and a little sign. I'll do more little details like vines/foliage, door details, and grass up on the roof.

Spoke with a publisher that I love and think would be a good fit for me. They're looking at my stuff and might want me to put together a little manuscript and some examples of photographs. Going to try and get something that looks 'finished' enough to submit as an example. -
@kylebeaudette That's so exciting!!!!! Please share the photos once you've created them, I love seeing your work! Good luck!!!
-
@kylebeaudette Brilliant news. I'm loving watching you create all these.
-
@Tiffany-Thomas thanks! Yeah, I'll share it as I go!
They may decide they don't want to work with me, but I can always go to Kickstarter. I think there's also an option where they'll assist me with a Kickstarter?
We'll see how it goes. Either way, it gives me some focus for what I'm working on. -
Needs a little snow on the roof/trees, but this could work as a winter scene -
@kylebeaudette Ooooooooohhhhh, I love it!!!!! Yes, a little snow on the roof will make it perfect!
