The Dangers of Inspiration
-
I couldn’t help myself. I love the background that Lee White just decided one day that he wanted try painting and then decided that’s what he wanted to do as a career and had the drive to make that a reality. It’s so inspiring!

Haha love it @K-Flagg

@K-Flagg lol! Nice! That pretty much sums it up! : )

@Lee-White I was interested in the book you mentioned (Drawing With the Broad Side of a Pencil), but I am not finding it. Can you post more info if you have it?

Lee's point about seeing people 'gather around your art' is a good one. He's made it before in other episodes. I think about it, as well as when Jake (I think) said you become an artist three times, or at three levels.
- You decide you're an artist.
- People start to describe you that way.
- Other artists describe you that way.
I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like that.

I loved to hear the "starting as an empty cup" thing. It was a bit my rule to start my learning this year at svs. I told myself that now that the drawing anxiety was gone, I wanted to go back to the basics as if I was learning drawing for the first time. But sometimes doubts come, so this was kind of a confirmation of my decision.
When I started my decision was that for 1 year I would be 100% student mode, just taking the classes and practicing the assignments as many times as needed, and then I can re-evaluate and see how to go from there.

I'm hoping to see some 3 minute figure drawings from @Lee-White

I would love to be able to do that. Figure drawing has always been my Achilles Heel. As a side note, I laughed when the whole "everyone gets A's in art school" statement was made. I get it, but it reminded me of how that was definitely NOT something that happened to me. I remember very distinctly getting a D on a color grid that we had to create with about 70 different squares and using gouache. I still maintain that I don't think it was horrible enough to earn a D (how does a color grid done by someone with a reasonable understanding of color get a D? I wish I had asked the teacher, who knows what he would have said).

@Lee-White incredible work, thanks for sharing.

@Matthew-Oberdier thanks! i really miss figure drawing and want to go back to it. But only so many hours in the day...

@Lee-White looking to get back into myself. I wish I was as fast as you. Here’s a 10min and a 30min I did before covid. I need to work on pushing my values darker. It’s the thing my instructors always told me to do and I can see they were right now. I hate when that happens.
