I will be there too, which unfortunately is going to make it hard to attend Children's Book Pro or the Jump Session. I'll have to watch them later, though, because I love these book breakdowns!

Is anyone doing an Instagram chat like last time?

I do not see anyone starting a IG chat this time. I have to drift in and out of the conference this time as my kid is having summer holiday home at this moment.

I was listening in the Pro Intensive zoom meeting earlier, now I came back after dinner, the zoom link saying "waiting for the host to start this webinar, start at 5:00PM". I have no clue with time zone it refers to. It is 14:15 EST time at this moment, and according the to program, there is a zoom meeting going on all day long today.

              Anyone experience similar issues?

@xin-li How did you like the Pro intensive? I would listen to it, but I chose the Launchpad, and it seems you can't do both. I did really like the Marla Frazee presentation during the Launchpad. There was some good promotional stuff as well.

I don't know what problem you were having with the time zone, but I'll take a look this evening when the plenary session starts back up and see what time zone it's in. Did that ever happen again?

I'm having to quit every evening at 10:00pm our time, because that's when they take their hour break, and I just don't have it in me to be attentive at 11:00pm after an hour's break. I tried at first and it resulted in some pretty major insomnia. So now I'm just watching the last sessions each day on replay. I can only imagine that the whole effect is that much worse when you have to be attentive to a child as well!

Everyone, feel free to post here about what you liked! I'd like to hear what others found useful! I am trying to listen to the writer stuff this time around, so among other things, I liked the session about how writers can use drawing and vice versa. The rapid drawing prompts were fun too!

P.S. Mine says 5pm too! But then the session starts when it's supposed to.

@LauraA I figured the time issue after little while. I did get to watch some presentations.
I have been a bit too stressed to really enjoy the conference, and I am multi-tasking all the way, and by now very confused what is happening in which session.

The thing made most impression for me during this conferece was a quote from Shaun Tan
"Look at your neighbourhood like an alien anthropologist."

Everything else was a blur as I was distracted by all the overdue tasks on my table.

I will post more thoughts when I get a chance to re-watch some of the talks. I did also like the panel discussion about the "Style"- voice? sensibility? whatever people call it.

Marla Frazee's "How to write with pictures even if you're not an illustrator" was an eye opener. Not only for my own book dummies but it encouraged me to reconsider the college level picture book class I teach. Going to have to redo my whole curriculum. Definitely worth it.

I also really liked Debbie Ridpath Ohi's "What to Use Social Media to Promote Your Career" (especially as it tied in nicely to the recent discussion on the 3PPodcast about including a credit line on pieces posted online)

I've missed a ton though -- mostly because I know that I have access to them for the next 30 days.

I'll take recommendations on which to watch first!

@xin-li Yes, I loved the part about the alien anthropologist! And that is, in fact, just the sensation I get when reading Tan's books. It was also interesting that he called himself "on the spectrum." And that whole conversation about lack of confidence!!

I'm preparing to fly to take a short vacation and then the US for the first time since COVID started, so I'm pretty distracted too. I'll watch the missed sessions when I get there!

@davidhohn Yes, that Marla Frazee session was great and I'm going to rewatch it! I have been thinking a lot lately about using drawing to write books.

As I watch through the missed sessions and rewatch others, I'll post things here that seem useful. If anyone else wants to do so, that would be very welcome as well! That way we can remind each other what's in which session. It is pretty confusing!

@LauraA I am on video archive for the illustrator intensive. Really good stuff. I really enjoyed Nancy Carpenter´s art work and her talk. I love her honesty and straightforward way of looking at her own work.
