Portfolio piece inspired by Shinji - WIP
-
Hi everyone! Inspired by Shinjis amazing piece "Love is a teddy bear" I started working on this portfolio piece.
I still have to fill the shop window. I plan to arrange there a pile of goodies. Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback already at this state. I struggle a bit with the girls hair. It does not read well especially in contrast to her forhead. I want to keep her blond. Any ideas? Thanks! -
Am I right in guessing that this is created with vectors? If so, awesome. I love vectors but don't see them used much for illustration
One thing that helps me with hair is to remember that it is lit in bands, like metal. I see you have strips of light on your metal lamp posts, so I know you understand that at least. Let me see if I can find a good picture...
OK, take a look at this one:

She's got this coil of hair on her head, and there are two bands of light across the coil going the opposite direction that the hair is.
Does that make any sense at all?
What I see in the hair you've got is that it just has a dark side and a light side like a duller material would, but actual hair acts a little differently.

@Sarah-LuAnn: Thank you so much for your comment.
I totally see what you mean and you are right. There might be some more reflections on her hair at that light conditions. I will definitely try that out.
Although this piece is done in GIMP, the lines are vector based created with the path tool, similar as one can find it in Photoshop. -
After a long while not working on that piece, I am trying to finish it. I am more or less satisfy so far, but the girls hair still needs some work, or? What do you think? Any idea to get the hair more shiny?
