      Hi guys,

So my agency had sent out a mailer asking for new portfolio pieces for the new year to send out to clients. Do you think it’s OK if I reach out to publishers on my own as well? I will obviously mention that I am represented and to contact the agency if they’re interested.
I just wanted to know if it's not frowned upon or anything.

Hope everyone has an enriching 2022! Happy New Year!
      Thanks!

Hi @neha-rawat, my advice is to consult with your agent first, and just say you’re thinking of supplementing the contacts to help you get more work.

        Just a thought.

@jeremy-ross Thanks Jeremy! I did ask my agent and they said that they don't have any problem if I contact publishers directly as long as I direct any potential offers to the agency. They also indirectly mentioned that I'd be doing something redundant since they would also be contacting all the same publishers that I would but if I was fine with that then I could go ahead.

@neha-rawat i think it's ok as long as you refer the publishers to your agent once the publishers contact you.

@neha-rawat Are you going to mail physical copies such as postcards (keep in mind many editors are working from home now and may not be able to receive postcards..... )? But if you are sure they can get postcards, I would say it's worth the time. Otherwise, I would follow your agent's suggestion and try not to explode the editor's inbox.
